Hey, so I couldn't wait any longer to post this second of three parts. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 12 - Daydreams, Detectives, and No Reality
“You’ve been staring straight ahead for the last hour, not blinking.” Chris said.
“We tried waking you earlier, but you wouldn’t budge.” Tanton let go of my shoulders, giving me room to get out of my seat. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.” He pulled me to him, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my forehead.
“Okay, do you need a ride?” I looked around, saw that Chris was gone.
“Nah, I’m good, thanks Jake.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I need some time to think about something.” I walked to my locker as Jake headed out the school doors. Stuffing the locker with my books, I saw another piece of paper.
There are secrets you don’t know, Scarlett.
Don’t trust anyone.
~A Friend
I punched my locker. I’m so sick of playing games. Footsteps reached my ears. My body tensed. The footsteps kept moving toward me. I crumpled the note, putting it in my pocket. I slammed the locker shut.
“Something wrong?” I turned around fast, slamming my back into the lockers. Chris.
“No.” He looked at me like he didn’t believe me, heck, I wouldn’t believe me either.
“Then let’s go.” He waited for me to move before turning for the parking lot. The headache from earlier is still there, maybe even worse. I followed behind him all the way to his car. “Do you want to drive?” I shook my head no; I was more preoccupied by the two notes that were left in my locker and the daydream. My gut keeps telling me that the daydream I had wasn’t just a daydream, but there isn’t anything else it could’ve been. I was being interrogated for digging somewhere, but why? They kept asking why, why there, what was I digging for?
“Now I know something’s wrong, you never pass a chance to drive my car.” What the hell was I digging for and where was it? “Scarlett,” there isn’t any significant ground to me except the ground where my father’s buried, “Scarlett,” but is there anything buried with him? If there is, why? “Scarlett,” Wait, there is something I buried there. A safety deposit key he gave me in case I needed to get out of town or the country, but who would know about that? Not even the ice queen knows about it. I’m making things up; I just have a wild imagination that’s getting away from me. Is this my subconscious telling me to get out of town? Now I know I'm going crazy.
“Damn it, Scarlett!” His voice made me jump. My head turned to him slowly.
“You don’t have to yell, I’m sitting right here.” Sitting? I looked around to see that I was sitting in Chris’ car.
“Actually, I do. I said your name three times already.” He did? I bit my lower lip. Crap.
“My bad?”
