"Daddy!" I heard her yell as she tried to squirm away from my tight grip around her little waist and my fingers tickling her stomach. "Stop!" she squealed through her laughing fit.
"What's the magic word?" I teased, not lighting up on my friendly version of torture.
"PLEASE!" she yelled. We were starting to get odd looks from the other parents and children around us so I stopped my torture and allowed her to breathe.
I tugged on her pig tails as she turned around to face me. I glanced down at my watch. Two minutes till her first day of kindergarten started. "Okay, Munchkin, remember what I told you?"
She sighed and readjusted her little tinkerbell backpack on her shoulders, "Be kind, make friends, and... erm...." she trailed off.
I chuckled at her and brushed her fringe out of her eyes, "Have fun." I finished for her.
"I knew that," she huffed as she played with the chain of my necklace. "I was testing you."
"I'm sure you were," I smiled down at her. I pulled her into a close hug and she wrapped her little arms around my middle. I softly stroked her red silk pony tails and kissed the top of her head before she pulled away just as the bell rang.
"Oh no! I'm going to be late!" she yelled, running towards the front door.
I laughed and stood up fully to watch her go. When she reached the top of the steps she turned around and waved back at me. Her crystal blue eyes were still piercing to me, even through her face full of little freckles. "Bye, Daddy!" she yelled before running inside, following the crowd of children.
"Bye baby girl," I mumbled to myself. I stood there for a moment, silently hoping she would come back, running into my arms, but I knew she wouldn't. For a five year old, she is very head strong and smart. Just like her mother. Luc is the spitting image of Jordan, even though they never had the chance to know each other.
I kicked the air on the ground and turned around and began walking back to my car parked on the block over. I never imagined her first day of school being this hard. I don't like the fact that she is growing up right before my eyes. It seems like yesterday she was saying her first word, Ouis, thanks to the constant pestering of Louis. He was the only member of One Direction I was still in contact with, mainly because him and his wife live down the block. He loved coming over and watching Lucia when I had work or Caroline was out of town. I still need to figure out a way to repay him. He has taught my baby girl so much. She is turning into a proper young lady.
