Seeing Snow

"God, I HATE this heat. It makes it so hard to look cool." Billie winked at you while the two of you were walking downtown to get ice cream. You rolled your eyes and smiled at her pun, and playfully slapped her on her bare arm. "Why can't L.A. just let the fuck up on this heat for, like, one day? It would be so nice to live somewhere that it's cold enough to fucking rain, let alone snow. I would give anything to be making snow angels rather than making sweat stains." Billie continued. You laughed, and turned the corner to the ice cream shop.

Suddenly, an idea popped into your head, and you knew Billie would love you for it.

Y/N! Wake up! It snowed, it snowed!"

You roll over in bed and feel the empty, cool sheets instead of Billie's warm body. Though you lived together in L.A., you had decided to plan a week-long, romantic cabin stay in Aspen, Colorado.

Lately, Billie had been going on nonstop about how hot it was in L.A., how she couldn't wear what she wanted because she might suffer a heat stroke, and you knew fashion was important to her; so, you decided to do something sweet for her, and bring her here.

"Come on Bil, it's like, still nighttime." You said, your voice still croaky from sleep. You rolled over and began to fall asleep again, but just as you were about to close your eyes, Billie tore open both of the heavy, light-cancelling curtains, bathing the room in bright white, snow-reflected light.

You groaned reluctantly and squinted, but were suddenly reminded why you were here when you felt Billie's warm body press up against your back, and her hand dangle lazily over your shoulder. You reached up and tangled your fingers with hers. She kissed your intertwined hands, and spoke softly: "Come on, please, Y/N? We're only here for a few more days."

She then bit your earlobe playfully, making you shiver lightly and laugh. "Ok, fine, let's go." As you swung your legs over the side of the bed, Billie jumped off excitedly and practically ran to the closet, where you had stored your snow gear.

Once you were ready, you had donned a full snowsuit- hat, gloves, scarf, and all. Billie, however, insisted on "enjoying the cold" and only wore what she'd usually wear in a colder state. Just like a little kid, you thought, and you loved her for it.

Walking down the back steps of your lodge to go enjoy the untouched Aspen snow, Billie excitedly shoved her phone into your hands.

"Y/N, take a picture of me! I wanna send it to Fin, he'll be lime green-fucking-jell-o."

You laughed, and positioned the iPhone as best you could with your thick snow gloves on. Billie posed, and you snapped a few pictures, then turning the camera around for some cheek-kissing selfies together.

"Ok, this one's definitely good enough for Instagram, too, right?" Billie asked, tilting the phone sideways a bit so you could see the picture.

"Yeah, I like it! It's-" You said, but before you could be more specific, a snowball smacked you unexpectedly in the back. You turned around, surprised, and barely dodged another. Billie had already run a good distance from you, and was hurriedly forming new ammunition.

You laughed, setting the phone on the porch and began to run in the opposite direction, yelling, "YOU'RE DEAD, EILISH!"

She just cupped her hand around the side of her mouth and responded, "THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK!" from across the way. As she spoke, everything slowed down, and you noticed the puff of steam in the frigid air from her breath, the red tint on her cheeks and nose, and the way she stuck the tip of her tongue out of the corner of her mouth while she concentrated on rounding her snowballs. I'm so in love with you, you thought, and smiled to yourself.

An idea came to mind; while you could see her still looking down at her quickly-growing pile of snowballs, you snuck slowly around the front of your small cabin and peered around the side. Stuck in her work, Billie's head was still facing the ground. You began sprinting at her, and before she could grab a snowball, you tackled her in the snow.

"Y/N, what was that for? Now there's snow all in my pants, and you crushed all my snowballs." Billie began to complain as you lay on top of her. But when she saw the small smile growing on your face, it began to grow on hers too, and soon you were both laughing as hard as ever. Soon, the laughter died down, and you were just positioned over her, the two of you panting and looking into each other's eyes. Ever so slightly, Billie picked her head up and brought it closer to you. You both began to slowly bring your lips closer, forming the beginning of a kiss, until you were an inch from one another. As you were about to close the distance between you, Billie quickly flipped you over onto your back, now positioning herself on top.

"Ha! Gotcha, babe." She smiled down at you, and you just rolled your eyes and smiled. Pretending to initiate a kiss again, you waited until she was perfectly distracted before you grabbed a handful of snow and the hem of her hoodie, and shoved it beneath her shirt. She gasped in shock as the cold snow slipped onto her naked chest underneath, and immediately hopped up, frantically shaking and shimmy-ing to get it out.

"Ok, you're SO not leaving this backyard without frostbite!" Billie said, and began forming snowballs and throwing them one by one. Soon, you were being pelted by them (she had surprisingly good aim for someone who never played a throwing sport), and you held up your hands.

"OK, YOU WIN- enough, enough!" You laughed aloud.

"YOU ALREADY KNOWWW!" Billie yelled out, laughing victoriously, doing a short, funny dance, and collapsing into the snow. You walked over and laid down next to her, your heads tilted toward each other.

"This has been the best week of my life, Y/N. Thank you." She said, still smiling and still facing the sky. As new snow began to fall lightly onto your faces, and the light gray sky began to darken ever so slightly, you smiled and grabbed her hand, once again intertwining your fingers.

"I love you, Eilish."

"I love you, too."
