Mei followed after Faustus and Diana, a look of worry still on her face. Raine got turned. Raine got turned. Her best friend since they were both tiny got turned into a vampire!! This was NOT part of the plan!! How were they supposed to escape now?

Internal panicking aside, she really wanted to throw shoes at Lydia and Grimm. Or stakes...

Her mind wandered over to Faustus. There were questions that still needed to be answered. Like who Jessica was and what happened. Again, she really wanted to throw shoes at Grimm.

"Faustus?" Mei asked, biting her bottom lip slightly, "Could I talk to you for a moment...?" When Faustus nodded, she continued, "Okay please don't yell at me for asking, but who on earth is Jessica?" Mei asked quickly and shut her eyes tight, half expecting him to lose his temper again.

Faustus turned sadly towards her, looking towards the floor, "That... I'll tell you, but not here. I don't want my mother, or Grimm to show up while we talk."

An irritated voice caused Faustus to look serious again, "Where do you think you're going with Diana?" of course, the red headed vampire appeared just as Mei was about to get some answers.

"Hello? Diana is right here, moron!" the redhead crossed her arms and glared at the newcomer.

"I DON'T NEED THAT FROM YOU!"

"Ahem. I was keeping her safe while you were off pouting," Faustus replied, faking offence, "You shouldn't leave her alone with Grimm on the prowl."

"I already bit her," Gaius defended.

"And that's stopped him when...?"

"Rrrrrr- fine! I'm here now, so hand her over!"

"Oooh, somebody's jealous," Mei smirked.

"Am not!" Gaius shouted back.

"Ok, whatever, here's your girlfriend," Faustus practically tossed Diana to Gaius.

"G-GIRLFRIEND??" both redheads shouted in disbelief and disgust. Gaius nearly dropped Diana in shock.

"Watch what you're doing, Troll! You're not the one who should be disgusted!" Diana exclaimed.

"You couldn't find a better man if you tried!"

"Oh yeah??"

"Yeah!"

"Most men I've met haven't kidnapped me, so that's a start!"

"It wasn't my idea!"

"Goodness... you two couldn't act like a couple if you wanted too..." Faustus muttered.

"Oh yeah? Well I say we could!" Gaius shot back.

"Prove it," Faustus allowed a challenging smirk to appear on his face.

"Maybe I will! Come on... honey. We don't need to stay around these losers," the words seemed to leave a bad taste in Gaius' mouth as he stormed off.

"Hey! I never agreed to this!" Diana complained.

"Ok, now that he's taken care of, you'll tell me about Jessica right?" Mei asked.

Faustus nodded, taking her hand and pulling her into a nearby broom closet.

"Um... what're we doing in here?"

"Can't let the others know where we are," Faustus whispered, "I can't let Gaius know I'm still hung up over this..."

"Ohhhh," Mei said, "Makes sense."

"Look, you gotta know that there was once a time that I was pretty rebellious. I was always going out of the house at night. Usually I just watched humanity go about their business, but one night... I saw her... Jessica was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. I just HAD to meet her. So I saved her from thugs and offered to take her out for coffee... That sounds like it escalated quickly but... we just really clicked, y'know?" his eyes shone with vulnerability as he continued, "And then we were together for two years, and we decided that we were going to get married... and then Grimm found out and ruined everything..."

"What did he do?" Mei asked, in a hushed voice.

"He turned her," Faustus said in barely over a whisper, "I thought she was safe, but he stole my key when I wasn't looking."

"Faustus..." Mei said quietly before she embraced him tightly, unable to control her desire to comfort him, "I'm so sorry!"

Faustus was startled for a second, taking a step back, "You couldn't have done anything, this was 20 years ago..." he sighed, "But I don't intend to let it happen to you too."

"Trust me, if Grimm comes within 6 feet of me, I'll take him out faster than he can blink," Mei muttered, throwing an imaginary shoe with her right hand.

Faustus's mouth cracked into a gentle, sad smile, "I'm sure you will."

"Will you be OK?" Mei looked into his eyes worriedly.

"I think... I think I will," Faustus said, "I don't know what it is about you, but... somehow I feel at ease."

"Can we leave the closet now?"

Faustus nodded, "Yeah," he opened the door, blinking in the light for a second, "thank you... for caring enough to listen."

"Of course," Mei smiled, "thank you for trusting me."

"You should get some rest. You didn't sleep all night right?"

"Now that you mention it..." Mei yawned, "I am pretty tired."

"I noticed," Faustus said, "Lock your door, OK? We don't need Grimm getting in."

He's put his mask back on, Mei thought, he never showed that side of himself before.

"Go on, I don't wanna have to drag you there half asleep..." he started to walk back towards his room.

"OK," Mei said, following along after him, a serene smile on her face.

Faustus threw her a key from his pocket which she struggled to catch, "Goodnight."

"Goodnight," Mei answered, entering her room and locking the door behind her. She wanted to know more about her mysterious friend, but, she noted as she yawned once again, it would have to wait until after she slept.
