Stretch was temporarily in a state of shock, due to remembering so much which was also of so much importance, in merely a short period of time. At first it seemed as any other day at the time, but the memory hastily revealed its significance. The doorbell rang throughout the proudly standing Whipstaff Manor. It was soon answered by J.T. McFadden, the genius prominent inventor. “Stewart! Am I glad to see you, come in!” A cheerful beam of sunlight shone through the huge windows of the mansion while the weekly guest entered the main hall. “I hope I’m not being a burden to you..will you take care of the boy while I get to work downstairs for the day?” J.T. asked politely, taking his older brother's snow-covered coat and hanging it up to dry on the coatrack.
“Yea, well me and the others will be moved in here by April, I’m thinking. We’ve all gotta stay together, know what I mean?”
“What wonderful news! And just in time for his birthday.”
“Uncle Stewie, Uncle Stewie!” A little boy’s excited voice echoed across the circular hall while he rushed to his favorite uncle. “How’s my favorite only nephew, huh?” Stewart beamed while he gently took the boy and held him up to his own level, playfully doing raspberries on his stomach. Casper laughed and reached his arms out in order to embrace Stewart. J.T. smiled warmly while he watched his eldest brother pull the very young boy close. In fact Casper was as young as seven at the time, in the year of 1878. J.T. and his son shared their identical pair of joyful ocean-blue eyes, both of their faces always being written with glee. “Have fun, my son..I’ll be back up by tonight.” J.T. assured, quickly stroking his son’s back before heading to his secret laboratory. “Bye, Dad!” Casper waved. Stewart gently set his little nephew down. “So whaddya wanna do, huh?”
“How ‘bout we go sledding, Uncle Stewie?”
“Sure, why not.” He playfully ruffled the little boy’s hair. More images of the flashback occurred of Casper and his favorite uncle laughing together and playing outside in the sparkly, bright white snow. They had to have been out there for hours in a row on that memorable day. However later on that special day when the sun began to set, Casper had finally gotten sleepy and his uncle took him back inside the warm mansion. He helped dress the young boy in his buttoned pajamas and tucked him into his bed to keep him warm. “Uncle..?”
“Hm? What is it?”
“Is Dad gonna be back soon, you think?”
“I think he’s about done but I’ll tell him you said ‘night, okay?”
Casper nodded in understanding. “Okay..” His voice gave away his longing, as if he’d already began to miss his father. Stewart recognized his worry and therefore returned a few minutes later with a glass of warm milk in order to help his nephew sleep well. “Here..drink up, Casp..”
“Thanks, Uncle Stewie..” He began to slowly drink it while his uncle laid another blanket atop him. “Gotta make sure you don’t get a cold..” Stretch explained gravely.
“What’ll happen if I do?” Casper yawned, gazing up at Stewart with heavy-lidded eyes.
“Ya won’t feel well, but I’ll be ‘ere to get ya better.”
His face brightened. “Pinky promise, Uncle Stewart?”
“Sure do. To ya and your dad..” He interlocked his pinkie with his nephew’s.
