Stretch had never experienced more guilt in his afterlife. He looked down at his now ghostly nephew and finally realized how weak and fatigued the boy had become, and even though his eyes were naturally bluer due to growing slightly older, they seemed to be filled with sadness unlike years ago within their pastlives. Stretch even couldn’t help but to be surprised at himself, mostly due to the fact that just a single memory had caused him to finally open his eyes so much, regarding the young ghost’s condition. He got back up with Casper in his arms, hugging him close. However the miniature ghost shook uncontrollably with fear. “I...I’m sorry, Uncle Stretch! Dinner's almost ready for you guys, I promise!” He stammered, bracing himself for a harsh scolding. Stretch covered the little ghost’s mouth once again. “Hey relax shortsheet, I ain’t gonna hurt ya or nothin..” He said softly, trying his best to reassure him.
“Whew, that’s a relief..” Casper’s ghostly body relaxed slightly despite still sounding uncertain.
“What’s the matter, ain’t feeling well?” He gently laid the exhausted spirit in his bed, much to Casper’s surprise. “Nah, I uh.. I’m alright..” He lied nervously, uncomfortable of his usually most abusive uncle aware of his weaker state. “C’mon now, I know when ye’re lying..” Stretch arched an eyebrow while he pulled the covers over his nephew. “You better get some rest now..comfy?”
“Mm-hm,” Casper couldn’t suppress his shock of the sudden change in his uncle. “Thanks, Uncle Stretch..”
“Yea, don’t mention it..” Stretch proceeded to turn around and slowly fly out of the room, still wearing a guilty expression which portrayed exactly as he was beginning to feel. Before heading through the wall he quickly glanced back, and noticed that his nephew had already snuggled under the warm covers and closed his eyes.
