The mystery of The Sorting Hat

Alex's POV

When we arrived we were brought to the castle by carriages which were pulled by some strange animals which I later learned by one a bit strange blond Ravenclaw girl, are Thestrals. She told me that people who only saw death can see them. I immediately thought about how my father killed my brother, while he was trying to save my mother.

Flashback:

I was 12 at the time and it was the summer.I was up in my room when I heard screaming downstairs. I quickly got up, and went downstairs to see whats happening. I saw my mother trying to defend herself from my father. She was trying unsuccessfully, but my brother came to her rescue. I was watching from the stairs and everything happened so fast. One moment my father was aiming his wand at my mother, and the next my brother was lying dead on the floor. I ran in an attempt to save him but it was too late. He was already dead. I blamed myself then, and I am still blaming myself today. If I was brave enough I would have stunned him or at least tackled him. But I was too scared do do anything.

End of Flashback

When we arrived at the front of the castle someone yelled my name.

"Alex Kattleburn"- said a stern looking woman, with round glasses and a pointy hat.

"Yess, I'm here"- I said a bit shy.

"Oh good, come with me to the headmasters office."

"Why, have I already done something"- I said confused.

"Oh no dear. Dumbledore just wanted to sort you in his office, so you won't look strange among the first years."- She said a bit amused by my concern.

"Ok then, lead the way"

She led me through some strange corridors, but we finally reached a spiral staircase witch just stopped in mid air and two gargoyle statues at each side of it.

"Sherbet Lemons"- she said and the stairway started moving up. We waited for it to stop and then we climbed the stairs. The woman knocked at the door, and the door swung open. Inside was a round office, fairly organised, a strange bird, Albus Dumbledore himself and a intimidatingly looking man with black hair and black robes. All black, way to go. I thought , and he looked at my a bit annoyed. Did he just use legilimency on meee. And with that he turned around.

"Ah, Miss Kattleburn come sit here and we will put this hat on your head which will tell us which house you fit the most."- He said as he ushered me to the chair in front of his desk.

As I sat at the chair, Dumbledore put the hat on my head and it came to life. 

"Hmm, interesting, very interesting. You have a very keen mind, you would fit in Ravenclaw well, but look at that, you are also as brave as a Gryffindor, as loyal as a Hufflepuff and as cunning as a Slytherin, but where to put you."- The hat said and everyone was listening with interest, even I could see that the all black man was interested in what the hat was saying.-"You have a very powerful blood running trough your veins, and a very interesting talent which I have seen only once before. Really interesting, but how do I sort you when you can fit in all of the houses."- As the hat said this I looked at the tall black man, and when I looked him in the eyes, something strange happened. I felt my hands starting to heat up and when I looked down they were flaming. As I looked at the man again they stopped flaming. Everybody was looking at me, shock written on their faces. Before anyone could say anything the hat started speaking again.-"Oh, I see it now. You would do great in SLYTHERIN." 

And with that Dumbledore took the hat from my head.

"Headmaster, was it just me or did my hands really erupt in fire."- I said looking him directly in the eye. I sensed somehow that he was shocked, but calm at the same time.

"Yes, they did dear. Would you come to my office after dinner so we may discuss the matter. Meanwhile this is your Head of House, Professor Snape"- He said gesturing to the man dressed in all black. Well at least now I know his name. He looked at me and smirked. So he is still using  legilimency on me.- "And this is the Head of House of Gryffindor, Professor McGonagall."- He said gesturing to the stern looking woman.

"Severus I believe you will show Miss.Kettleburn to the Great Hall"-Dumbledore said, Snape just grunting in response.

Oh, I also do enjoy your company. I thought sarcastically, to which he only glared at me. Stop using legilimency on me, you bat. After I said that I heard a chuckle inside my head. Oh, what a sexy chuckle, wait what. I hope he didn't hear that.

Snape ushered me outside the door and led me to the Great Hall. We spent the walk in silence, to which I was grateful. When we arrived at the Great Hall, he showed me to the Slytherin table and then went to the Staff Table. After that Dumbledore stood up, gave his speech, introduced me and sat down. After he sat food appeared on the table and everybody started piling up their dishes as if they had never seen food before. I just looked at them for a while, before I started slowly picking up some food from here and there until I got a healthy amount of food in front of me.
