School

The sun was just starting to rise over the various trees surrounding Albotrose’ High school as I arrived at the massive gates.  I took a deep breath before walking  between the large  solemn pillars that  stood on both sides of the iron gate.

After waking up to ghostly death threats, I wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of going to this death trap known as school.

Albotrose’ highschool was nothing to look at having solid gray walls and  a few rotting trees that can’t even be identified.  It stood out all right, as the towns prison!

This is where I had spent the last three years of my life. Inside these cell- I mean class walls. I stood out more than most of the kids and not in a good way.

Most kids classified me as the  local emo girl. I Have natraully straight black hair that was layered to cover half of my face which contrasts to my bright ice blue eyes.

Today, I’m wearing  my favorite  amethyst colored ripped skinny jeans and, a plain black shirt that fits tight enough to prove that I have just the right amount of cleavage. To accessorize that I have on  skull earrings and my dearly departed fathers dog tag from his time in the U.S. army, before he died in an explosion that wiped out the entire camp when I was 9 years old.

I fit my title well except for the fact that I am not emotionally unstable at all. At least I thought I wasn’t. This morning’s proceedings may have persuaded me otherwise.

As I walk through the old run down  hallways, I can’t help but to be wary of my surroundings.

Happy birthday… it will be your last.

Just remembering the ghostly words was enough to send a shiver up my spine. I glanced around the hallway  making sure nothing was out of the ordinary.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Unfortunately it was to soon. A strong gust of wind sent  flurries of autumn fallen lives spiraling through the extensive, unadorned, uninhibited, hallway.

Looking up I watched as a piece of the upper wall that’s been being worn out for probably decades, crumbled and fell.

Just as the voice had said, I was to be its victim. It landed squarely on my head and I collapsed.

Only to find myself roused in another dreadful dream…

                       ***

It was the same as before. The girl with scarlet  eyes running through the endless woods. The same ghastly creature killing her. Except this time the dream had altered some. I recognized the woods. And the girl  said something new this time.

She said, “Only you can save me, Alexa. When the sun sets, go to the woods.”

I woke up screaming those words…
