Chapter 10

CHAPTER TEN

Tina’s P.O.V.

“What’s a brain infection?” I asked. Liam looked close to tears.

“A brain infection occurs when the brain, spinal cord, or membranes surrounding them become inflamed. Brain infections can be life-threatening, so it's important to seek immediate medical care.” He read from the computer screen. “A brain infection causes the brain to swell and can cause sleepiness, fever, headaches, neck pain and stiffness, nausea, fatigue, confusion, sensitivity to light, seizures, loss of consciousness, and coma.” I starred at Liam.

“You are joking right?” I asked. He refused to look me in the eye. “Liam.” I said. Tears threatened to spill. I couldn’t cry now. “Louis?” I asked as I watched Louis get up from next to Liam and run to his cell phone on the kitchen counter. I stood up and watched him as he dialed on his phone and put it to his ear.

“I need to make an appointment for my girlfriend. We think she has a brain infection.” He stopped and listened. “We’re not sure what kind but all of the symptoms showed it to be a brain infection.” He listened again. “Today.?” He listened. “In an hour.” He said. Then he nodded. “Alright thank you very much.” And then he hung up.

“Louis?” I asked again. A tear slid down my cheek. “What’s happening?” He rushed over to me.

“Everything is going to be okay.” He said taking my hands. “I promise.” More tears slid out.

“But what’s happening?” I asked.

“You’re going to the hospital today in an hour to see if you have a brain infection.”

“What? But I just got out! Talk about bad luck.” I mumbled sitting down heavily on the couch. “Are there any other… ideas of what I could have?” I asked Liam.

Liam looked down. “The other ideas are worse.” Liam muttered.

“What is it?” I growled.

“Brain tumor.” He whispered. A tear slid down his cheek. I felt like a great impact collided with my chest. I stood up and bounded upstairs into the music room closing the door after me. I sat on one of the stools heavily and cried. This can’t be happening! Maybe I really do deserve to die… I lifted my shirt to see my stomach in the reflection from the glass. It could point out each scar like they had just happened yesterday. I could remember them happening like it was yesterday.

**Flashback**

My screamed pierced the air as Jack’s palm collided with my cheek. I collapsed to the ground holding my cheek.

“Get up, you slut.” Jack snarled. Alcohol reeked on his breath. He roughly grabbed my arm and jerked me up to my feet. He roughly pushed me towards his bedroom. I finally stood up for myself and punched Jack in the chin. He stumbled back a little holding his jaw. His black eyes trailed back to me. “You bitch.” He growled. I stumbled back terrified. He lounged at me. I screamed again. He brought his hand back and punched me hard and hit my lip. I felt a warm liquid running down my face and dripping off my chin. Crap that’s blood. He brought his fist up again and hit me over the head. I collapsed onto the ground crying. He flipped me over so I was on my back. I was in too much pain to try and run. I watched as Jack pulled out his pocket knife.
