CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Louis’s POV

My eyes peered over to Tina, trying not to let my fear take over. I tried to keep my cool as best I could; Tina was doing much better than me that was for sure. She looked just as beautiful as before, only her eyes carried so much sadness in them, almost a sort of emptiness I didn’t recognize. All I wanted to do was to wrap my arms around her and hold her, whispering to her that everything would be okay, but I couldn’t do that if Jack was going to shoot me for so much as touching her shoulder.

His gun poked at my back, urging me forward through a back door. He poked Tina out first, and then me. I tried to take my time going through the door, scared that if I moved too fast Jack would kill me.

“Hurry up!” he snarled at me, putting the gun to my head. I flinched away from him, just barely keeping the squeak from exiting my already tight throat.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” I pleaded putting my hands up, kicking the door open, rigidly hurrying through. I stopped dead when I was outside, looking for Tina who was nowhere to be found. Fear gripped my stomach as I came to the conclusion that Tina had left me. I looked up and down the ally, eyes sweeping through all the nooks and crannies that I could see. I could almost taste the air pushing through Tina’s tired lungs as she was running away from the scene. Jack was such an idiot he didn’t notice that she would’ve been gone if he had left the building first.

“No!” Jack exclaimed as he copied me, searching the alley for the running figure of Tina to shoot, but there was no figure. It was almost as if Tina had vanished into thin air. “NO!” He shouted, pushing me down the small steps, making me crash into the ground of the alley. He pointed the gun at me. “Where is she?” he screamed.

Panic coursed through my veins as he cocked the gun, pressing his finger to the trigger. “I don’t know! She must’ve run while we were—“ I was stopped with the sound of a gunshot. I screamed as an intense pain ripped through my right thigh. I swallowed back the tears as my throat opened with a trembling cry. I felt the blood pooling on my leg, being stopped from gushing from the bullet now wedged in my thigh. I pressed my hands to the whole, attempting to stop the bleeding, my only thoughts repeating in my head: stay alive, don’t die, survive, stay alive, don’t die, and survive.

“Tell me again: Where is she?” Jack knelt next to me, pressing his thumb into the bullet whole. I screamed again in pain, the edges of my vision blurring.

“I don’t know!” I screamed, gripping at my leg. Someone must’ve heard by now, the gunshot, my screams, or even his. I looked around in desperation, trying to see anyone who would be able to help, or anywhere I could crawl to and run away. Then I saw her, hiding beneath the hospital’s stairs; Tina was crouching there the whole time, she hadn’t left me. Once I made eye contact with her, a little pain in my leg went away. She put her forefinger to her lips as she crept up behind Jack with a garbage can lid clutched in her hand. I looked back at the gun barrel that was inches from my forehead. I crossed my eyes looking into the shaft, eyes blurred by tears as the belief of sudden death took place in my mind. Tina may be behind Jack but he has a gun pointed at my forehead, even if Tina hits him around the head he might pull the trigger. I’ll be nothing more than a dead corpse in an alley.
