Ch17- Mystery

*El's POV*

We were at the basketball game watching Steve play, he invited us.

Billy was being an asshole as I presumed, but it was entertaining to watch.

I sat next to Zero and her two brothers, the eldest was working. Will sat behind me, and Dustin sat next to me.

"So, all three of you have super powers?" Charlie asked.

Jason, Zero, and I nodded in unison.

"What's your last name again?" Will asked Jason.

"Hayes." he responded, "Why?"

"Guys, wasn't there a girl with the last name Hayes, other than you Bella." Will told the group.

"Yeah, yeah, Jennifer Hayes, right?" Lucas added.

"She moved though." Dustin said.

"That's our mom's name." Zero said worryingly.

"Or they could just have similar names." Mike sighed.

"Nothings ever a coincidence in this town. C'mon we should figure this out. It could be fun!" Max smiled.

So we ditched the basketball game and went to the library.

*Mike's POV*

"Look! It says here that MKUltra experimented in time travel!" I called out.

"SHHHHH." Half the library shushed me.

Zero and Jason were the only ones that came to see the newspaper article I had found.

"Hmm, that's strange." Jason scratched his head.

"You don't think what i'm thinking, do you?" Zero asked me.

"You're mom-"

"Time traveled." she finished my sentence.

"That's crazy! I thought only I could do that." Jason sat down and pouted.

Bella rolled her eyes and took the news paper to the others and explained to them. Meanwhile, I chatted with Jason.

"What's your problem?" I questioned.

"What do you mean?" He didn't look up.

"Why do all of a sudden show up and act like you're one of us when you're really not. You and your stupid brothers should just leave Zero alone, she's tired of all these changes and it makes her stressed."

"What are you, her dad?" he joked.

"I'm her boyfriend and she tells me everything." I scolded.

"Did she tell you that she has the power to control emotions?" He got off the floor, he was slightly taller than me and looked me in the eye.

"What?"

"She can manipulate emotions, including love emotions. You may think you love her, but she's just controlling you." He scoffed and walked away.

I stood there in silence and remembered that special moment.

The moment on the field.

When she talked.

Touched my hand.

Smiled.

It was all fake.

*Will's POV*

I saw Jason storm away from Mike.

"Hey, everything alright?" I asked him.

"Sure." Jason responded.

"Okay.." I trailed off.

"Would you like to get shakes with me at the diner some time?" He blurted out.

"Uhm- I-" I turned red.

"Okay, I'll meet you there at 6." He winked and then exited the library.

Wth just happened?

*Charlie's POV*

Jane was strolling through the library shelves. I strolled with her.

"So is it easy, like, having powers?" I asked her.

"Yeah, as long as you can control them. Considering the weeks I've spent with Jason, he can't."

I laughed at her remark.

"Shhhh!" The librarian near us shushed.

"Oh you shut up." I hissed back.

Jane giggled.

"Do you read often?" I asked.

"Yeah, it helps me expand my vocabulary. How about you?"

"I haven't picked up a book ever since I ran away." I answered.

"Hmm, then I recommend this one." She pulled out a thick book with a black cover. It was titled, The Odyssey.

"Uh, thanks." I faked a smile and checked out the book at the front.

*Max's POV*

"Lucas, do you think think we could move our date to tomorrow. I'm feeling a little sick today." I asked my boyfriend.

"Sure thing, I hope you feel better soon." He pecked my forehead, which was warm.

I stood up and saw Dustin walking away.

Does he still like me? I wondered.

Lucas went after him, I guess to talk about guy things. I found Zero and talked with her.

"Boys are such a mystery." I sighed.

"I know right!" She whispered.
