Chapter 5
“Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful.”
- A Walk To Remember
Tiana
Today is the first day of spirit week and it’s ‘High Roller’ Day. This has to be one of my favorite days because I have the perfect clothes for today. Joey always has dinner parties that I have to attend so he makes sure I have professional clothes. When it comes to clothes, he spoils me mostly because Stace and I go shopping together. My dress is light blue that has a zipper down the back and since the sleeves are so small it’s basically sleeveless. It’s a little chilly I grab a blazer that goes with one of my pant suits. To top the whole look off I put on a pair of heels that have to be one of my favorites. They are just a pair of simple, black heels but they are one of the first pairs Joey brought me. Last night when I was FaceTiming Elliot, I painted my nails black with blue stripes to match my heels and dress. As I walk past Joey’s and Stace’s room, she calls me in so she can see me.
“Aww, little sister, you look adorable. Come look, Joey.” He’s in the bathroom brushing his teeth so he comes out with the toothbrush still in his mouth. For a minute he just stares at me.
“Well?” I ask doing a twirl.
“You look just like Mom.” He smiles softly taking the toothbrush out. “She would be proud.” He kisses my forehead before reaching for his phone.
“You are going to knock El off his feet when he sees you.” Stace snaps her fingers when she takes a picture of me too.
“That’s always my favorite thing to do. Oh by the way I’m going to be home late tonight but don’t worry I’ll get my homework done.”
“I trust you will.”
Recently Joey has let up on the grades and has been more relaxed. It might be because he’s up for a big promotion at his firm. Hopefully we’ll find out tonight but it’s looking like he’s going to be a managing partner at the law firm he’s been working at since he was an intern 21. Driving to school I park next to El’s truck. He seems to be having an intense argument with someone on the phone when I walk over to his open window on the drivers’ side.
“Good morning, babe.” He greets when he gets out of his truck while handing me a Cookie Dough Frappuccino and a chocolate chip cookie from Starbucks. I swear he’s trying to fatten me up from some reason, I better watch him or I’ll end up like Hansel and Gretel.
“Good morning, handsome.” Checking him out I whistle as he does a little turn like he was on the runway. “Is everything alright?” I ask as we walk into school.
“Yeah.” He’s probably not ready to deal with it right now but I’m sure when he is, he will talk to me.
Our relationship is different from most people because we are completely reliant on trust. Since we started off friends, we will always remain friends. The beginning was rocky especially with him dealing with his past and me with my parents. I’ve never had a reason not to trust him and likewise for him. That’s why I don’t understand girls when they demand to see their boyfriend’s phone. Elliot gives me his phone to hold when we hang out and I’ve never gone through it. If girl feels like she has to go through her man’s phone than what is the point of him being her man? Then all of this talk about people on the side makes absolutely no sense. What is the point of cheating? If someone is unhappy in a relationship and feel like they might cheat then they should end the relationship they are in so the other person doesn’t get hurt.
