▪︎▪︎▪︎A day before the Hogsmeade visit, the fifth years were given endless amounts of homework. Gwen didn't want to think about the hours she was going to spend banging her head against the table. The Gryffindors were currently during their last lesson of the day which was Defense Against the Dark Arts.
The students had to revise Vampires since they didn't go into the necessary depth that was needed during their third year. They listened as Professor Lupin lectured them and wrote down whatever they deemed to be worth necessary.
Gwen was writing down the list of weaknesses when she was hit with a ball of parchment. Gwen looked in the direction where it came from and saw that it was from Lee who was seated next to Olivia. The girl checked if Lupin was near her and luckily enough, he was on the other side of the classroom.
As Gwen opened the parchment she saw Fred looking over her shoulder to see what was written.
Should we do the epic prank today or tomorrow? -L.Jordan
Gwen dipped her quill in the ink pot to write the response. She could see Fred beside her, pointing his index finger at the desk in a way for him to say 'today'. Gwen nodded her head at the gesture as she was going to state the same opinion.
Today during dinner, barely anyone would be in the great hall on Saturday morning. -Gwen
Gwen passed it on to Fred and George for them to read it. Once they read as they threw it back towards Lee. Gwen tried her best to catch up on what Lupin was saying.
"Count Vlad Drakul, born in 1390, was a notorious vampire who inspired the author Bram Stoker to create his famous character Count Dracula. Drakul had a son, Vlad the Impaler, who presumably shared his father's notorious reputation." Lupin continued to lecture them.
Gwen was once again trying to write everything down until she was hit with the ball of parchment in the face. Gwen glared at Lee who looked as if he was scared of her.
Good! Cause we are going to pull off one of the most epic pranks we have ever done! Gonna make them proud! Anyway, about tomorrow are you going to Hogsmeade with us? Or are you going to go with Pretty Boy? -Lee
Gwen rolled her eyes at the apparently permanent nickname.
I'll be joining you. We are meeting up at six, so yes, I'm coming with you three losers. -Gwen
Gwen threw it back at Lee, hitting him in the back of the head which made him spill the inkpot on the parchment. Gwen could hear Fred snicker from beside her. Fred turned to Gwen and mouthed to her 'Nice one' to which Gwen responded with a wink.
Gwen continued jotting down notes when she saw the ball of parchment flying over her head. Gwen quickly turned to look where the parchment landed and saw that it hit Lupin on the back of his head.
Gwen looked back down at her notes and tried not to blush from the embarrassment. Still, Gwen could see Lupin opening the paper and reading its contents.
Once Lupin read the entire note, he dropped it on Gwen's desk and continued with his lecture. Gwen, the twins and Lee were all surprised that he didn't say anything to them.
The bell rang only a few minutes after that and Gwen immediately started packing her things. Lupin cleared his throat to get the attention of his students.
"I want you all to write a summary about vampires. Their weaknesses, strengths, all of those. I want it on my desk by next Friday. Before you go, Miss Hamilton, a word please."
Gwen sighed, she knew that it was unlikely that she would be able to leave the classroom without facing any consequences.
What she didn't know was the reason why she was the only one getting a talk to. Gwen waited for the classroom to be fully empty before walking up to Lupin's desk.
"I'm truly sorry about the note, Professor." Gwen started. Lupin shook his head as he stood up from his chair.
"That's not what I wanted to talk to you about Gwen. You see, mister Potter came to talk to me about a situation that he has. He told me that you advised him to come to talk to me about the problem with the dementors, is that right?"
Gwen nodded her head as she started to fiddle with the strap of her bag. "Yes, I did. He came to ask me for help about the dementors and I thought that it would be better if he came to talk to you since you are more of an expert."
"Yes, yes. It was very responsible of you and I agreed to help him. I thought it would be of best if you joined him as well. If I remember they also affected you. Only if you want to, of course." Lupin added in the end.
Gwen bit the inside of her mouth in thought.
"Yes, I think that would be for the best. Thank you so much for offering to help both me and Harry. Is that all?" Gwen asked, considerably calm when he didn't mention anything about the prank.
Lupin smiled as he nodded his head in dismissal. "Yes, that is all. And miss Hamilton-" Gwen stopped walking towards the door and turned around to look at the professor.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing this 'epic prank' of yours." Gwen gave him a confused and awkward smile and quickly left the room.
As soon as she walked out and closed the classroom door behind her, she was greeted by her friends. "What did he say to you?" George questioned as he walked faster to catch up with Gwen.
"He just told me about how he wants to help Harry and me with the dementor situation. He did mention the prank though but he just said that he looks forward to seeing it."
Lee looked at Gwen incredulously. Gwen noticed that Lee's hand was covered with the ink that he had spilt and there were also a few spots on his shirt.
"Really?" Fred interjected. Gwen hummed yes which made Fred clap his hands together, creating a loud noise.
"Wow, I never liked a teacher more than I like him. Imagine what would have happened if Snape read our note! He would have deducted us from all the house points Gryffindor has!" Fred exclaimed.
"You know what this means?" Lee asked. Gwen shook her head. "We have to make sure that the prank will surely be epic!" George shushed Lee. "And we have to make sure that you are quiet or everyone would know what we're doing."
"Sorry," Lee whispered. Gwen quickly wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "That's okay, Lee. Nothing bad about being excited. Now just to get this out in the air. Why with the silver and gold glitter, why not red and gold?" Lee shrugged.
"Because it would look prettier. Everything is set up and ready. We just have to be there to enjoy the show."
Gwen stopped in mid tracks which caused George to bump into her.
"Wait, what happens if we get caught? I mean I think that McGonagall and all the staff will know it would have been us, who else would it be? And Lupin knows that something is going to happen. What if we're not allowed to go to Hogsmeade tomorrow? Where would I go to buy all of the Christmas presents!? Or maybe she would give us a day worth of detention and I won't be able to go on the date!"
Fred scoffed. "You say it as if it's a bad thing." That earned him a hit in the gut by George.
"Calm down Gwennie, it's a harmless prank, no one is going to get hurt. Plus, the prank is going to set off on us too, so there won't be any proof that we were behind it all." Gwen bit her lip and thought that Lee was right.
Nothing bad can happen.
