Conner paced back-and-forth on the hard, gray, solid, stone floor. A dim light flickered above them, and he sound of tools could be heard in the other room. Allie sat on the wooden bench on the left side of the room, tapping her feet to the beat of Beat It by Michael Jackson Which could be heard softly, and muffled from the other room. The clock struck ten. It was so late.
“Hey!” Conner broke her thoughts.
“What?” Asked Allie, unable to make eye contact with Conner. If she did, she wouldn’t be able to take her gaze away.
“Since they say it may take another… maybe three hours to fix our cars, why don't we just go out for dinner. I’m starving.” Suggested Conner. The moment he mentioned ‘starving’ Allie heard her stomach growl, and she suddenly felt empty inside. She hadn’t eaten in six hours! She quickly nodded.
“Whats the closets place?” She asked, trying not to clutch her stomach, which now arose with hunger pain’s. She always tried not to complain, knowing that there were people hungrier than her in the world.
“A truck-stop dinner.” He said. Allie gave in, and met his gaze.
“Okay, is it walking distance?” She asked.
“Maybe a mile…” estimated Conner.
“Sounds good.” Said Allie, getting up, and stretching.
“Okay, the lets go.” Said Conner, giving a brisk nod. Then the two headed out for a mid-night dinner.

When food came, both Allie and Conner quickly scarfed it up. There were no words spoken at this time. They both had an empty stomach that need to be filled. In all of five minutes Conner at everything off his plate. Only seconds after did Allie finish two side serving of Bacon, and a stack of three large pancakes. As soon as Allie sat back in her booth, the two burped at the same time. They then proceeded to laugh for three minutes straight. Good thing they were the only people in the dinner. They slowly calmed down, taking deep breaths.
“Okay, so do you have to time?” Asked Conner.
The waitress passed as he spoke, and she butted in with a rude:
“Time for you to leave. Its one in the morning, our shift should have ended and hour ago.”
Conner slapped his palm to his forehead, and ran his hand down his face.
“Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I didn’t know we stayed that late. Please, the check.” He said, and in all of about two minutes did the waitress bring the check.
Conner quickly signed it, and tipped the waitress forty dollars for being overtime.
He nodded to Allie, and she shook her head.
“You can tip whatever you want, but let me pay for dinner, please. It’s the least I can do.”
Conner frowned. “I insist I pay. It’s only the polite thing to do.”
“No, you’ve been quit polite already. I will pay.” Said Allie, grabbing the check; taking out his cash, handing it back to him and put her own fifty dollars in.
Conner shook his head, but went with it. Allie also added a tip of her own twenty dollars, and when the waitress came over, she wiped the bad look of her face and nodded at the two.
They quickly got up, and left.

“So—“ Began Conner “—Tell Me a little about yourself?” He asked.
Allie nodded, and looked at him.
“So, I am in the Navy, and I have my best friends. Grace, Dana, Olivia and Katie. Thats where I’m staying, with them in Grace’s house.”
Conner nodded. “I am guessing you already know stuff about me.” He said.
“A lo-“ Allie quickly stopped herself. “I mean, yea, a little.” Conner laughed, and the two kept laughing into the night. They brightened the dark sky together.
