I instantly started cryinging in my mothers arms. In a second the whole world changed, including mine, and I don’t even know how. I didn’t really care during this moment. I wanted to stay in my mothers arms forever, taking in her homey scent.

I was the one who broke the hug. My eyes felt puffy, and I could tell my mother was crying as well. I needed answers. WHO. WHAT. WHEN. WHERE. WHY. HOW. I know these are basic questions but they are useful.

“ Mom,” I managed to say through all the pain, physically and emotionally.

“ What happened?”

My mother sighed. “ I knew you were going to ask that. For you, it might have felt like you were only knocked out for a few seconds, but for me, it’s been months. First things first, you had a concusion, but were also in a coma. Worst case scenario. The doctors said that you will most likely die or never wake up. I was worried for you. After your father died,...” She paused. I knew this was going to be hard for her to explain but I needed to know.

“ After you father died, I was broken and alone. Everyday, I would be by your side, hoping you will wake up. During these nine months, everyone was broken. A lot of people lost their loved ones during the earthquake. Oh the earthquake right.” She looked sideways with sadness in her eyes.

“ The earthquake lasted 5 dreaded minutes. I was in my office, under my desk hoping that you and your father are okay. I was half right. The whole building started crashing down. Thankfully I work on the last floor. Everyone was yelling and crying, and I myself was also crying. I don’t know how the earthquake happened, but I do know something changed when it did. There was a light, a bright blue light, and it looked like it was choosing people.”

“ Choosing people. What do you mean? Who are they?” It was all so confusing.

“ We don’t know who these people are, but I think they were aliens. I don’t know honey. While it was over, everything and I mean everything was destroyed. They managed to save some hospitals, but thats really all. Your father didn’t make it out. I rushed to your school to see if you were okay. I found you laying under the desk, blood on your head, eyes closed. I thought I lost you, but I heard you heart beating fast. I rushed you to one of my closest friend, Rebecca the nurse. She helped though the first two months until they fixed the hospitals. I had to watch you day after day, sleeping in a bed, all sad and gloomy. I missed your voice, your laugh, everything. Sometimes you heart would stop beating and they would have to revive you. It was a horrible thing to witness.” She was crying now, and I hugged her so tightly.

“ I am so sorry mom. I know this must have been tough for you, and I am glad you are okay.” Honestly as long as I have my mom, I think I can go through life like this.
