A slam, shattering, then the crunch of wood.
A fist slammed onto a table surface.
"Enough! Now tell me, where is that demon?!"
The small boy trembled, though small he was over two hundred years old and served one of the few dream demons that existed.
It was why they were so highly regarded.
"I-I don't know, I've been looking but I can't find her! It's as if-"
A growl could be heard.
"If you say vanished, I will personally remove your tongue."
The boy immediately put his hands to his mouth.
"And stop trembling you child, go keep searching. Tell me of anything you find."
He frantically nodded, quickly racing out of the room and down the stairs.
He wasn't sure what to look for though, having been looking for hours.
But if he failed the demon once more, he'd probably lose his life rather than just his tongue.
He gulped, putting a hand to his throat as he thought about it.
No, don't think about it.
"Maphis!"
Another demon, same as him with small wings, a curled pair of horns and soft red eyes came around the corner.
They wore matching outfits, the only difference being he himself has blue ribbons wrapped on his horns by their boss.
"Orin? What'd he say?"
"He'd remove our tongue if I said vanished again. Then sent us to keep looking."
Maphis, the no ribboned demon, simply gave a nod.
"Then we have to hurry. I kept looking while you went to speak with him, I think I found a trace of the queen!"
Orin grew excited, a big, sharp toothed smile forming.
"Show me quickly!"
The brothers took off down the hall, passing room by room, picture by picture.
Before long, Maphis yanked Orin around a corner and into a room.
As soon as they were there, they leaped through the soft blue portal.
This took them to Gravity Falls, the only town that the dream demons could enter.
The two small demons stepped out into the center of town.
They weren't actually in the town, more like in a realtime hologram of sorts.
"Where is she?"
Maphis gave a soft mumble, when he pointed.
Orin turned, looking in his pointed direction.
A young women stepped out of a diner, her twin brother and a man with golden yellow hair beside her.
There were two streaks of white through her brunette hair and she wore a soft white sweater.
"It's her..."
Neither questioned the other two with her until the golden yellow haired man looked directly towards them.
His eyes glowed lightly as he tapped her shoulder and said something.
She looked at him, listening before looking towards them. Her eyes had a soft light blue glow to them.
"Orin, they know we're here! What do we do?!"
Maphis clung to his brother, neither daring to move.
It was definitely her, but she didn't look like her anymore.
It was no wonder they hadn't found her.
Ori slowly raised a hand, giving a wave.
The action brought a smile to the girl's face as she returned the wave.
Only to get her hand pulled back.
The yellow haired man said something that made her pout but she waved her fingers at them.
Then she skipped off, seemingly giggling.
They watched the twin siblings skip off before looking back towards the man.
His expression held a death stare, raising his hand and sliding a finger across his throat.
Then he turned away, seeming to look somewhere and they followed his gaze.
The brother had turned around and what they saw brought a gasp.
His eyes held a soft green glow, same demon slit pupil as their own.
"Maphis, did you see that?!"
"I did, Orin! He has to be one, does he know? Do any of them know?"
Neither could answer before Maphis pulled him back towards the portal.
"We must inform our master! We found her!"
Orin stumbled after him, quickly following him through the portal.
"What do we say?!"
"She was reincarnated, of course we couldn't find her!"
Both were rushing down the hall, excited to finally give their lord and master something good to hear.
"Ooh, he'll love hearing this! He's gonna be so happy!"
"Oh yes, oh yes! I do hope so!"
Both gave excited little screeches as they reached the room and both knocked on the door.
"Master! Master! We have good news!"
They spoke in unison, big smiles on their faces as the door was pulled open.
He looked down to them, raising an eyebrow.
"What is it? Is it about my missing queen?"
"Oh yes!"
"We found her!"
"We couldn't because she reincarnated into a new girl!"
"She's really pretty, brunette, sweater and white streaks in her hair!"
A smirk slowly formed across his face, before he patted their heads.
"Is there anything else to say?"
Maphis and Orin looked to each other slowly nodding.
"She has a twin brother, green eyes like yours. We think he's another dream demon. There was another man, yellow hair and eyes. She and him saw us, the brother didn't."
They spoke slowly, not sure how he would react but he only nodded.
After a moment, he gave their heads a rub.
"Do you think he knows he's a demon?"
Both of the smart demons gave a shrug.
"We don't think so."
"He didn't seem to see us and only spoke to the yellow haired man."
All three were silent, the two sure he was thinking.
"...you said she and him, saw you?"
A nod in reply.
"Did they do anything?"
Another nod.
"She waved and smiled."
"I think he told her not to."
"She did anyways, then he made a death sign at us."
"It was then we saw the brother's demon eyes."
Their master gave a nod to them.
"Alright. You two are released from duties from the rest of the day. Go ahead and get your treat."
He gave them a smile which made them give a squeal.
"Oh thank you, master! Thank you!"
They took off, giggling to each other excitedly.
He just watched them, giving a sigh as he ran a hand over his face.
After a moment, he retreated back into his room, giving a sigh.
His elbow rested on his armrest, forehead on his palm.
She had been right under his nose, all this time.
He couldn't punish his favorite servants for never noticing it, he wouldn't have either.
A knock on the door caught his attention.
"Come in..."
A tired tone slipped into his voice as he sighed.
He didn't move as the door was opened.
"...Master?"
Ever so slowly he looked up.
His head servant stood in the doorway, hands wrung together.
"What is it, Morman?"
She gave a slight bow.
"The leader has come to speak with you."
He slowly straightened, giving her a gentle but dismissive wave.
"Thank you. Now please go and make sure Maphis and Orin aren't getting into trouble. I already told them they were clear from duties for the day."
She gave a nod, turning and leaving the room.
A man in a blue cloak walked past her, a white star printed on the hood.
"My lord, we believe we have located your queen."
"You're late, my two servants already found her."
He leaned sideways, cheek resting on his fist.
"So I have a new assignment for you instead. It requires several steps, so I'll give them to you once you complete the one before it."
The cloaked man gave a bow.
"Yes my lord."
"Finish the portal first, it's important for this to work."
He once more received a bow.
"Yes my lord."
And with that, the leader turned and headed out of the room.
Then he was alone.
He leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees as he slowly exhaled.
A grin crossed his face eyes flashing dark red.
"You will be mine, as promised, Mabeline."
