Dipper pushed the door open, looking in before Mabel slipped in.
Upon seeing the white clad demon in the booth, she actually gave a smile.
But why?
She wasn't sure herself, heading over with Dipper in tow.
"Mabel."
He stood, giving her a bow before looking to Dipper.
"Cato."
He stuck his hand out, Dipper taking it and shaking.
"Dipper Pines."
Cato gave a nod, all three taking a seat.
"What is it you want to know first?"
Mabel was silent, thinking but Dipper spoke first.
"Mabeline."
He'd said it first, read her mind.
She nodded as Caro raised an eyebrow.
"Don't you already know about her."
Mabel shook her head, opening her mouth to speak.
"Yes, but I only have some of her memories. It's why I want to know."
Cato nodded.
"Yes that makes sense...where to start..."
He was silent, delicately tapping his child.
"She was...amazing. One of the demons who would stop and ask if you were doing alright. Treated fairly and had so many friends where we live."
"Mabeline! We have a party to attend! Wear that white dress, it's the only thing you have that doesn't embarrass me."
"Yes, Father..."
Mabel was startled to hear that, as if hearing him speak about it had triggered a memory.
"Did she like parties, cause I love parties."
She added the second to make it less suspicious.
Cato smiled.
"At times. Some you would see her trying hard not to complain its boring and others you'd feel her smile from the next room."
"What's this party for father?"
"This is where you'll meet your future husband."
He didn't point anyone out as they entered, just wandered off and left her alone.
"Mabeline! I'm so glad you made it!"
Mabel spoke once more.
"Did...she have any friends? I remember her having one or two."
Dipper glanced from Mabel to Cato, who gave a soft clap.
"Oh yes! Everyone loved her, she had many friends."
Gertrude, one of her only three friends hurried over.
"Oh Mabeline, you look dazzling! Have you met Bill?"
"Bill? No I haven't, is he here?"
The girl turned, pointing across sthe room. There stood a man clad in Golden yellow. He had freshly combed dark blonde hair and a glass of wine in hand. Then he glanced over, their gaze meeting.
It was only a moment before eshe tore her eyes away and turned, blushing.
"Isn't he gorgeous?!"
A smile crossed her face.
"Yes...he is."
"How did she meet Bill? I mean it's obvious she did since I'm here now."
Cato chuckled.
"At the very party she met me. She was talking to him when it was time to introduce the host of the party, me. So I stole her for a conversation."
"You should speak to him."
"Gertrude I couldn't! You know what father will do if I speak to a man not approved!"
Gertrude gave a scoff, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Mabeline, go! You might never get another chance!"
She was right, but she was terrified of her father.
After a moment, see took a depends breath and began walking over.
"Was it then that you were promised to be married?"
She was curious, following along the few memories she had, but strangley she could remember almost this whole party.
Cato gave a nod in reply.
"Yes, it was there we announced to be married in a year."
"Are you the one who's been staring at me for the past five minutes?"
His tone wasn't rude but rather playful, a smirk crossing his face.
"Ooh dear, I apologise for staring! I just had never seen you before."
He turned fully towards her, glass in hand before dipping into a low bow.
"Bill Cipher, at your service milady. And you are...?"
She was startled at the elegance, blusing lightly when realized asked for her name.
"O-oh! Mabeline Cantrin." She gave a curtsy, quickly since she always stumbled in them.
"Has anyone ever told you how lovely you are?"
She blushed brighter, giving a soft a laugh.
"My father says it's why he has to be careful with me around."
She'd mentioned her father. Not good, would he...
"What about Bill? He told us there were only ten dream demons."
Cato gave a low growl, hands flattening on the table surface.
"He's the reason there's only ten- no eleven of us."
"Oh yes, he should be. Anyone could snatch you up for themselves."
He gave a wink, making her giggle.
"Is it true...you're the oldest of us ten?"
Bill gave a nod.
"Yes...I was then and still am now."
"Was?"
"Yes because I..."
"Massacred every dream demon that was there. All because the we're fulfilling their duties as a dream demon."
Mabel was shocked, Dipper unable to speak.
"What...for...?"
The memory cut off, the reason Bill gave Mabeline gone forever, perhaps Cato would know?
Cato scoffed.
"All so he could stay the most powerful. That's all that thing ever wanted was power! He let his queen die so he had a reason to take over his dimension, an act that is illegal by the way."
Was she...believing him?
She couldn't tell if they were lies or truth, everything messing up her mind.
Then-
"Then why did he protect Mabel so hard when he took over Gravity Falls?!"
Dipper asked her exact question she was thinking.
"To make him seem like a good guy! Why else would he protect you?!"
Mabel stood.
"Then why did seeing Mabeline hurt him so badly?!"
Cato was startled, seemingly unexpacting that one.
"What? How did he see her?"
Mabel sat down once more.
"I summoned her through my soul. She took over and convinced Bill to let Gravity Falls stay. And when she could no longer stay, it tore him apart. He...cried."
She could still remember that despair.
The amount that hit her she didn't even know demons had been capable of it.
"He cried so hard..."
Cato was losing, he could tell. He quickly stood.
"An act."
She was startled, looking up at him.
"...what?"
Cato glowered.
"It was all a act and you fell for it."
Cato put out a hand.
"You want to see the truth?"
"I will not be married to a man I don't know!!"
"And you know Bill?! Do you know what he's done?!"
"I can show you what he never would."
"Yes! He told me everything, and even showed me why!!"
"Do you trust me, Mabel?"
"I trust him and I love him! You can't stop me!"
"Mabel don't, you don't know what he's gonna do!"
Dipper quickly stood, yanking out his phone.
"I'm gonna call Bill. You take my sister, you'll have one pissed off demon after you."
Cato smirked.
"He can't do anything if she chooses to do so."
Dipper was startled but he knew he was right. Even so he dialed in the number, putting it on speaker.
Mabel was silent, torn about what to do.
For a second, she reached up, ready to take his hand.
"Mabel don't!"
Hesitation, Cato gave a growl glaring at her brother before flicking his hand.
And her twin went flying back, phone scittering across the floor.
"Mabel!!"
Cato grabbed her arm, ready to teleport away when a burst of purple flames hit him right in the face.
He stumbled back, screaming in pain before he whirled and vanished from the room.
Dipper was startled, Mabel shocked as she stumbled to her feet.
