When Jerome Meets Harley

Chapter 12.

As I was walking though the alleyways without a care in the world, I heard the sirens blaring.

Shit! I thought. How am I gonna get outta this one?

Suddenly the answer to my prayers-more or less-grabbed me. "Hello doll. Miss me?" He smirked. Even in the dark alleyway, I could see his smile.

I jump out of his grasp. "You! What are you doing here? How'd you find me, again?!" I shouted.

He laughed. "Who do you think led you here in the first place?" He asked.

I frowned, confused. "What are you talking about?" I asked.

He sighed. "Harley, I dropped you off last night at your place after you murdered that guy. I left you the note. I left you the bat and the mallet." He said, filling in my blanks.

"Why did you take me to my place? Why not kill me or drop me off anywhere else?" I asked.

"That is where the fun comes in." He grins and starts walking around me in a circle. "See, I knew about the abusive past with your parents, particularly your father." I started to open my mouth. "Before you even ask, just don't." He says, I shut my mouth real quick, for once taking his word for it judging by the dark look in his eyes.

"And I knew that he would go crazy and then you would go crazy on him for him going crazy on you. It's the cycle of life, Harleen." He smirks. "I knew you'd give in. I knew you'd decide. But I must say I was just slightly surprised by your decision to murder him. I thought you'd at least bruise him, not kill." He said.

I frowned. He seems displeased with me. For some reason, I want his approval of my method. Then he surprises me by grinning madly. "I've never been happier." He laughs crazily.

And I observe him as he does. I watch the way one hair in particular seems to dance with his ever movement. How his eyes close so tightly when he laughs hard. How his whole body shakes with every laugh. And how it affects me.
