Layla's POV
"Okay Ms. Perry, you already passed the first part of the interview, but you must also pass the physical interview," Dann said as we stepped into a gym-like room. "There have been some threats made to Mr. Hayes lately, and we just need to make sure that you can handle this position."
I followed him to a boxing ring, where a pretty intimidating dude was standing. I stepped into the ring while Dann gave me instructions, and Hunter just stood to the side, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
Take down the bodybuilder guy. Alright.
What they didn't know is that my brother had me master a number of different martial arts, so he was on the ground within ten seconds.
I looked back to Dann and Hunter, both shocked that I just put a man more than double my size on the ground. I stepped out of the ring and walked back to them.
"We're getting back on the road tomorrow. Make sure you're here with your bags by 8 A.M."
I thanked him and went to leave, but someone grabbed my arm. I turned to face them, already in defense mode, but relaxed when I noticed it was Hunter. "Can I help you?" I asked, trying- and failing- to not sound as annoyed as I actually was. He let go of my arm and gave me a small smile.
"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for the way I acted the other day, I've been really stressed lately, and I let it affect my attitude. Maybe we could just start over. I'm Hunter, and you are?" he said, holding his hand out for me to shake, which I accepted.
"I'm Layla. Nice to meet you, Hunter." I said with a smile. I talked to him for a minute, then left to go get packed. He wasn't that bad. Why did my brother despise him so much?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stood in the back of the bus and unpacked my suitcase. We were already on the road, and this was the only excuse I had to get away from Hunter and his band. They were some of the nicest guys I had ever met, but I still didn't want to be around them. If I got attached to them, it would only make the plan harder to carry out.
It was hard enough as it was. Just in case you were wondering, I'm not okay with killing people. I'm not heartless like my brother. I'm protecting my own skin, here. If I went against my brother, He'd have no problem adding me to his mile-long list of murder victims. In no way did I want to be here, collecting information on Hunter so my brother could kill him. Personally, I didn't think he was as terrible as my brother said he was.
But what I think doesn't matter. One way or another, that poor guy's life is gonna end soon, and he doesn't even know it.
As all this stuff ran through my mind, I started to feel worse and worse about what I was doing. Pretty soon, I was crying. I was a monster. A pure monster.
Hunter's POV
I knocked lightly on the bunk room door, hoping Layla would answer. She disappeared back here a while ago, and I wanted to make sure she was okay.
I found her curled into a ball on the floor, quietly sobbing. My first instinct was to comfort her, so I did just that. I sat down next to her and placed my hand on her shoulder. The second did, her head shot up and she started wiping the tears away and looking like she had just committed a horrendous crime. "I'm sorry." she said, trying to compose herself. I couldn't help but chuckle.
"You're apologizing for crying? It's okay, but if you don't mind me asking, what's got you so upset?" I asked, and she looked like she was debating on whether or not to tell me. "I miss home." she said, and I nodded.
"Me too. You'd think that after spending so much time away, I'd be used to leaving, but I haven't. If anything, it just gets harder. But hey, in a few months, we'll be back home. I know that sounds like forever, but it flies by." she smiled and thanked me, and I hugged her.
I wanted to know more about her. I could tell she wasn't being herself, as if she was acting. I wanted to know what was behind that mysterious cover. Who was she really, and why did she feel the need to hide it?
A/N: OH MY HAYES AND CUPCAKES. I am super seriously sorry!!! It's been what? A month almost? O.O Anywhoo, hope you enjoyed the VERY late update! :) If you think it was awesome sauce, please vote, comment, and follow!! :D
