Mistakes? ; Shizaya

[No One's POV] ~

Shizuo watched for the billionth time, as Izaya jumped, skipped and bounded around him, of course adding here and there annoying and teasing comments to rile the man up. And it always worked. When the man was so goddamn annoying – like Izaya was – it was impossible not to work. That's when Shizuo knew he had made a mistake. A huge mistake.

Shizuo thought back to yesterday. A similar situation like today had happened. Izaya was doing exactly like he was now. Bounding, jumping, and skipping around the man, whispering teasing, playful comments in the man's ear. Shizuo, of course lost it then. The man turned around, ripped a stop sign from the ground and swung the object over his head like a baseball bat, of course intending to hit the other man. They slowly made their way through the streets of Ikebukuro for a while. Shizuo trying to hit the other man and Izaya constantly dodging the hits. This was a usual thing both of the men did everyday. They both couldn't stop trying to kill each other.

It must of been the eighth attempt to hit Izaya when finally the stop sign came into contact with the man's back. Izaya flew forwards onto his hands and knees. The man made a witty dig, then. Even after he had been hit – rather sharply, at that – he still joked around. Izaya got back up after a moment, but before he could run off or turn around to throw a punch, Shizuo hit him again, sending him flying. Izaya cried out in pain, which was unusual for him, for as long as Shizuo could remember, it always seemed like Izaya was immune to pain. Shizuo had never seen him cry or show any signs of pain. Shizuo had even hit the younger man with a vending machine, and he got right back up, literally unscathed.

Izaya managed to get up once more. His legs were shaking, and his head was spinning. The same thing happened again, of course, Shizuo hit him again. And again. Izaya at this point, was breathing heavy, and his chest was ragged. Blood was staining the man's tee shirt and beloved coat, and Shizuo swore some of the man's bones were broken. Izaya's eyes were more or less closed, and his lips were slightly parted as he took in deep, aching breaths.

Shizuo had the opportunity he had always wanted for such a long time, right in front of him. He could kill Izaya right now, and he wouldn't even be able to fight back. It would be easy. So, so easy. A grin couldn't help but form itself onto Shizuo's face, as he thought about how sweet Izaya's death probably would be. He made a few steps over towards Izaya, who was still currently lying on the ground, unmoving. He raised the stop sign over the other man's head, to deliver the final blow that would end his life. But then, Shizuo stopped in between his actions he was about to make, and he wasn't sure why.

He didn't know whether it was because Izaya was lying on the floor, completely vulnerable, practically unconscious. Somehow it seemed wrong to kill the man when he couldn't fight back. Or maybe it was because after all these years of trying to kill each other, somehow it didn't seem right. Everything about it was off. Shizuo's heart ached painfully at the thought of Izaya's death. Shizuo couldn't imagine a life without the younger man & he had to admit he would kind of miss the annoying punk. Or then again, maybe it was to do with his feelings – his feelings that, Shizuo had tried to hide and forget about for such a long time. The man's feelings had been there since he first met Izaya. But of course, the feelings had to resurface themselves at the time when Shizuo was about to kill the man.

Long story short – Shizuo ended up sighing, and throwing the stop sign to the side of the road. Then, he turned back around and picked up Izaya's lifeless body into his arms, and carried him bridal style all the way to Shinra's. As soon as Shizuo knocked on the door of the underground doctor's door, he opened it. His usually calm face turning worried. The doctor questioned Shizuo if he himself had done this to Izaya, and he sheepishly admittedly that he had. Shizuo handed over Izaya's body, and he took him somewhere. Probably into a backroom to treat him.
