CHAPTER: 6 LONG LIVE THE KING

Graham follows after the king, but finding the hole much too small for him to travel through. With no other recourse he partakes of the monarch's advice and pops the mushroom. Instantly he shrinks to a size that allows him to walk through the same hole.

Once on the other side he grows back to his normal size and with a triumphant air he proceeds to the woodman's hut. There is nothing now that can harm him and none tried.

The woodsman surrenders the mirror gratefully and Graham carries on to the castle. Then he remembers the small man who has the chest and worries whether or not he kept his word. A bad feeling churns his stomach until he finds the very man in question sitting atop the chest in front of the gate.

He looks to Graham. "They said, they won't let me in without the other treasures," he informs the newly arrived adventurer.

With a nod the knight carries on and together, the two of them enter the throne room where Graham produces each of the treasures in turn, bringing a spark of life upon the king's weary face. Finished, he kneels before his liege.

"Rise!" exclaims the monarch as he himself does and bounds toward him. "Well done my boy!" Were the only words the king speaks as he falls to the ground. His body lays still.

Graham is pushed aside by the physicians who observe the king closely.

One of whom bends his ear low and with a nod turned to Graham. "He wants to speak to you," he informs the stalwart knight who is at a loss.

Graham pushes his way to the king and lowers his ear.

"Graham my boy," the king speaks weakly. "My life is over you are king now, but know this. It was not the thieves who destroyed my life, but rather my lack of one. I had a wife, but no heir, no one to carry on my legacy; listen well, find yourself a queen and raise a family. Only a strong family can make a strong king."

King Edward expires and the physicians upon confirming this crown.. "All hail King Graham!" they hail.

It's a bittersweet victory for Graham a king the same day a dear friend dies.
