They ran with all their might trying to reach the doors that would lead them to the outside world. They were almost there! Soon they would taste freedom! A gun shot rung out throughout the warehouse and a body crumpled to the floor.
Alexis looked back to see her best friend, Jacky, dead on the floor the back of her head with a bullet hole. Tears stung her eyes but she knew she had to keep going or those monsters would get her baby. She reached out for her husbands hand until she felt it.
She laced her fingers into his and ran with all her might towards the exit. They opened the doors and a blast of fresh air filled them.
They are finally free.
Alexis looked at the others behind them and saw only three of their kind had died, including her best friend Jacky. They all went their separate directions like they told each other they would do. This is for their own good. If too many of them are together it might rise suspicion and the scientist might come after them again.
She looked at her husband's eyes and smiled, "We're free, John." She whispered and he smiled back.
"And we will stay free for as long as I live." He pet her stomach where their baby awaited to be born into this world. "I will protect us."
She hugged him tightly and finally let the tears spill over. "I love you John." She cried against her shoulder and he hugged her back with the same force but gentler.
"Let's go we aren't safe until we leave this place completely." He said and she nodded.
"But where will we go?" She asked.
"Connecticut would be nice? It seems like a quite place..." He said unsure, we had never left the lab so we knew few things about the U.S.A. But either way she nodded agreeing with him.
He smiled warmly, "Then let's go."
They ran towards the nearest bus stop and took one last glance at the old warehouse where no one suspected experiments were going on there. Everyone thought some stupid kids stayed there and trashed the place, but that is far from true.
There they experimented on humans genetically mutating them until we came out, Half animal and half human. They called them Project X because X is, usually, put in for the unknown.The scientist didn't know what forces they were messing with when they experimented or what would come out so we are known as just X.
We named ourselves they just kept calling us X over and over. They engraved it into our brains that we are worth nothing. We are just lab rats. No, we were lab rats.
Now we are free from them.
"Goodbye mother fuckers." She whispered into the night letting the breeze carry out her whisper.
This is the first chapter of FallingForRomance and my book! I hope you enjoyed the first chapter even though it is quiet short. The next chapter will be longer this is just the chapter explaining how May's parents escaped the scientist.
