Archie could barely keep his eyes open.

Mr. Tartaglia had been going on about symbolism in Romeo and Juliet for the past hour, and Archie was dying of boredom.

He had already gone to the bathroom twice, and was pretty sure that everyone would think he had a problem if he went again.

On a whim, he scribbled a note to Betty, who was sitting in front of him, taking diligent notes.

How are you not bored out of your mind?

Betty read the note and threw Archie an indignant look over her shoulder. She quickly passed back a well folded message.

Because I'm trying to get a good education here Arch. You should be too!!

Archie shook his head. Betty was already top of the class, slacking off for one period wouldn't affect her 4.0 gpa.

He wrote back:

Ahh come on, loosen up Betty. You gotta admit this is boring.

She deciphered his chicken scratch and responded:

Maybe a little. But I love Romeo and Juliet so it's still pretty cool stuff.

Feeling cheeky, Archie wrote back:

You like Romeo and Juliet? Why, do you see yourself as Juliet?

Betty smiled and responded:

Yeah, only I've got no Romeo as of right now.

Archie thought about the fact that Betty was single. It crossed his mind that it was impossible she'd stay like this for too long. He knew there were a ton of guys who would love to date her. Nervously, he wrote back:

You've got me.

Betty's heart sped up as she read that. Was he just being friendly, or kidding? When she had been reading the play, she had imagined Archie as her Romeo the whole time, but had he felt the same way?

With a nervous breath, she scribed back:

I guess I do, Romeo.

With Love,
Juliet

Archie's eyes lit up as he read that. He had been on the edge of his seat waiting for Betty's response. He quickly scrawled in return:

Do you want to go the Pops after school?

Forever Yours,
Romeo

Betty fought back a smile, her grin threatening to take over her features and expose her and Archie's communications. She responded:

Are you proposing a date?

Yours Most Devotedly,
Juliet

Archie wrote back in record time, his letters uneven and messy:

Yes, yes I am.

Eternally and Adoringly Yours,
Romeo

The bell rung, Betty quickly folded all of Archie's notes and put them in her pocket. She wanted to hold on to them, as they were a written record of how she and Archie went on their first date.
