Chapter 2:
Shaky beings
That afternoon, when I got home, my brothers where in the living room watching some game on the TV. My mom was cooking, my dad not home yet, and as for me, my thoughts kept aimlessly drifting back to Emit, and his perfect smile. I sigh to myself and start up the stairs. When I get to the top my pet pug, Gizmo, is on the bed asleep. I pat his head and toss my bag on the floor. I plop down at my desk and turn on my black and pink dell laptop. Thinking about all the things to say in the email im about to write. I sigh to myself as I scroll through the millions of email addresses. When I get to Collin's name I hit the compose button and slowly type my email, and retype it, about 40 times. When I hit send I was satisfied with it.
Hey Collin,
I was wondering if you are taking Mrs. Holcomb's class this year. If you are, are you any good at math? Im not. I was wondering if maybe you would like to hang out and study some time. Soon. Please write back!
Love, KC ;]
I read over this small paragraph what felt like a million times. Not sure if he would still want to hang out with me. Not sure if he still liked me either. But it was worth the risk, to see Emit again. But there was still a small nagging in the back of my mind that kept making me feel wrong for using Collin this way, or any way at all.
" Fish lips dinners ready!!" one of my brothers called from down stairs. It was most likely Chris, he always called me that. He was my oldest brother and also the most protective. I roll my eyes.
"Coming butt brain!" I yell back. When I got down stairs my brother was waiting. He bowed.
"My lady." I giggle.
"What did mom make?"
"My favorite." He says obviously referring to spaghetti. If he had the choice we would eat it everyday for every meal.
"Yum!" I say over exaggerating.
"So, how was school?" he asks. Avoiding the question he knew I was going to ask. I shrug and smile to myself.
"fine."
He raises an eyebrow. "Ok, what's his name and just so you know he's dead."
"Emit." I sigh knowing that he probably will. He stops dead in his tacks and pulls me to a stop to.
"Last name?" he asks suddenly becoming serious. I look down at my feet.
" Harris. Why?" I ask generally curious. I look up and see that his face has become white with fear or possibly anger.
"Look Casey, you have to listen to me. I've gone to this high school a lot longer than you, so I know things. And one of the things I happen to know is that, that dudes trouble. Stay away from him. He's also a junior! You have to promise me you will not hang around this guy. Okay?" he says staring straight into my eyes with his concerned but angry face, he used to use when he was mad at me for going in his room. I nod.
"Whatever." I smile, he slowly starts to relax.
"Ok good. Lets get to the kitchen before mom thinks you got lost again." He says smirking.
I hit his arm. "That was only once, and in my defense, we had just moved in!" I say smiling at the memory. Chris puts his arm around me and we walk to the kitchen where everyone was waiting for us to sit at the table. My plate was already in my usual spot in between Chris, and James, my second older brother.
