lost in japan

shawn's pov:

it had been a week since i arrived in the philippines, manila to be exact. i had just gotten back from dinner with the people who joined me on the trip and i was on a hammock outside while scrolling through my twitter timeline.

everyone deserves a break at times. i learned that from y/n, one of the wisest people i know. we hadn't known each other for long, but i trusted her enough to take her advice.

when i got the chance to step away from the world for a bit and go to the philippines just for vacation, no business, i didn't hesitate because of her advice. the plan was to invite her also, but her schedule is always changing since she's a very spur of the moment person. at the same time though, all it'd take is one flight to be in the same timezone and that very much sounded like something she would like the idea of.

i refreshed my timeline and the first thing i saw was a picture y/n tweeted. she was standing in front of a gorgeous looking temple with a huge smile on her face. the sky was clear and there was a vibrant rainbow in the background. further examining the photo, i realized that was the sensō-ji temple in tokyo.

y/n was in japan.

we were one short flight away from each other, i could see her in a matter of hours.

i didn't think twice before exiting out of twitter and going to my favorites in my contacts to facetime y/n.

she answered on the second ring with a smile, "hey, mendes,"

"hello, y/l/n," i responded before running a hand through my hair, "i have a question for you,"

"shoot," she said while sitting up and setting her phone down before putting her hair up in a ponytail.

i cleared my throat, "do you got plans tonight?"

"yeah," she said while picking her phone back up, "sleep,"

"well i'm a couple hundred miles from japan and i," i said with a smirk, "i was thinking i could fly to your hotel tonight because i can't get you off my mind,"

"aren't you in the philippines?" she said before chuckling, "i'm pretty sure that's more than a couple hundred miles from japan,"

"you know what i mean," i said while playfully rolling my eyes before going into my room and going on my laptop to find a flight to japan.

"you-" she said before not finishing her sentence.

we always planned to hang out, but it never ended up happening. plans would always fall through, so i understand her being hesitant with this crazy sounding idea. we weren't together together, like dating together, but we were together? she knew it, i knew it, but we just never talked about it.

"i found a flight," i said while turning the camera to show her me purchasing my ticket, "i'm going to be in your presence in five short hours,"

"you're going to get here really late," she said while putting her head on her pillow and shutting her eyes while keeping a smile on her face, "what if i fall asleep?"

when i finished putting in my information, i closed my laptop, "you're not going to because i'll only be a couple hours, i promise,"

"ugh, fine," she said sarcastically, "do you want me to pick him up from the airport?"

"no, it's fine. i'll figure something out, thank you though," i said while starting to pack up some of my things since she went on paused, "just send me your hotel's address please,"

she unpaused herself, "just did,"

"alright, i just need to pack up a few more things and i'm about to leave," i said while picking my phone up to be able to see her face, "i'll see you soon, y/n,"

"you will indeed, shawn," she said while giggling, "bye,"

we both knew this trip would turn into something special.

i quickly packed up all of my things before letting everyone know i was leaving and wasn't sure if i was coming back. i got in a taxi and made my way to the airport. i hurriedly did everything i had to do to get on my flight, and before i knew it, i was on my way to japan.

around four and a half hours later, i was in tokyo and outside of y/n's hotel.

i headed straight to the receptionist in the hotel lobby and gave her y/n's information, along with mine.

"it has appeared ms. y/n y/l/n has added you to her room," the receptionist said, "i could change that if you'd like,"

"no, it's all good," i said while smiling, "i'll just go then,"

"sounds good," the receptionist said while nodding, "welcome to japan once again, mr. mendes. have a good night,"

i grabbed my things and started making my way to the elevator, "you as well, thank you for your help!"

i went in the elevator and made my way to the very top where the suites were. i stood in front of the door for a moment before taking a deep breath and knocking on the door.

y/n opened the door in a matter of seconds, she looked well put together.

she ran a hand through her hair that had loose curls, defiantly different from earlier, "hi-"

before she could finish her sentence, i threw my suitcase and bag inside the room and shut the door to hold the sides of her face to kiss her. i stopped for a second to apologize for not asking her first, but she then quickly put her lips back on mine and led me to her bed.

we made out until we got tired, nothing more.

"that was some hello," y/n said after we broke apart and laid down on the bed.

i put my arm around her and she cuddled onto my side, "but you liked it,"

"i did indeed," she said while looking up at me before pecking my lips.

we stayed in comfortable silence for a moment, just in each other's arms.

until i broke it, "what do you want to do now?"

she sat up once she removed herself from my arms, "you owe me coffee for staying up,"

i nodded before putting my hand out, "can i have your phone first though?"

"sure?" she said before reaching towards the nightstand and handing me her phone.

i took our phones and put them in my suitcase before zipping it up, "no phones,"

she stood up to put on her heels before grabbing her purse, "i like the way you think,"

"now let's go get coffee," i said while putting my hand out for her to grab.

"and after that?" she asked while interlocking her fingers with mine.

i tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "we'll go get lost,"

we ended up exploring until midday and got lost multiple times throughout. we then went back to the hotel and made plans to get lost in each other's paradise... only a couple times though, we needed sleep if we wanted to get lost in japan again the night.
