CHAPTER II

A swift breeze swept across the face of a young boy who stood on top of the cliff, his eyes closed as he felt the serene feeling around him.

"Easton," the Alpha said, placing a hand on the shoulder of the child, "This land has been in the Zeita bloodline for centuries. This is where you were born, as was I, your grandma and the Goddess herself,"

Easton looked upon his family land, sheer fascination across his youthful face. His father began speaking once more, "One day, you will be Alpha to this land, and to our people,"

"A very far away day," Easton spoke, placing his hand atop his father's on his shoulder.

The Alpha chuckled, "Yes when I'm old and tired."

Comfortable silence was shared. The Alpha broke it, "I'll be leaving for a while again,"

"Again?" Easton tensed, turning around to face his father, "but you just came back,"

"Yes son, again," the Alpha said, not happy about the events himself, "There appears to still be trouble lurking, but soon it should come to an end,"

Easton huffed, he rarely got to spend time with his father. For the past years, it had been this way. Coming and going. This was supposed to be over. He was supposed to stay this time.

"Father, promise me when this is all over you won't go again," Easton spoke after a while, the young boy adored this man who raised him as a single father after his mother had passed away nine years before.

"Of course son," his father said, ruffling his hair, "Who else will teach you how to be such a great Alpha? You must learn from the best,"

The pair broke into a heartwarming laugh. "Now while I'm gone, you take care of this pack. Remember: they're our family. And family comes before anything else. No matter what happens Easton, promise you will look after the Zeita family,"

"Of course Pa," the young Alpha in the making promised, knowing how sacred Zeita was.

"Weston!" a hoarse voice rang through the air, "Now what have I told you? Easton is just fourteen summers, nothing more. Stop throwing your responsibilities on him!"

Weston laughed, opening his arms to his mother, "I didn't say anything Ma!"

"Of course you didn't," the older woman said, smacking her son's arm, the highest she could reach the Alpha with his towering height, "Now Weston, you promise everything will be okay! I want you back in one piece!"

"Of course Ma," the Alpha said, embracing his mother, "You know I love you. Watch over Easton for me will ya?"

"I've been watching over this whole pack while you're gone," she said, "Who do you think handles everything around here?" she asked, " I keep everything afloat!"

The next day Easton hugged his father tight, "Be careful, father," he said, fear creeping into his being.

"Don't worry son," the Alpha said, hugging him just as tight, "You take care for me now. I love you,"

"Love you too Dad."

Easton watched as the car drove away. His father waved from the open window; neither of them knowing this would be the last time they would experience together as the space between them becoming one, ten, hundreds of miles, soon an eternity.
