I stood in the ceremonial hall, bright streams of colorful light spilling through the stained glass windows towering around me. I stood to the right of Urbosa, the Gerudo champion. She was tall, muscular, and powerful, her bright golden outfit glinting in the light. Next to her stood Daruk, the Goron Champion. He was huge, determined-looking, and strong. I wondered why I had been chosen to work with these mighty, awe-striking beings. I was small and puny-looking compared to the other two warriors. I thought, maybe the other Champion would be more like me.
"He's 'busy'," Urbosa had told me when we first met, about an hour ago. "Really, he's just too stuck-up and/or lazy to come here." Urbosa was clever, with a sharp sense of humor. Daruk, on the other hand, was, although I hate to say it, particularly clueless. Nonetheless, he seemed like a nice guy.
Now we stood in a semi circle, Zelda standing in front of us and King Rhoam above us on a balcony.
"Chief Urbosa, of the Gerudo," He called across the corridor. "Princess Mipha, of the Zora, Daruk of the Gorons, and, currently absent, Revali of the Rito. Your great skills and powers have proved your worth of being chosen by the Royal Family of Hyrule to pilot the Ancient Divine Beasts Vah Naboris, Vah Ruta, Vah Rudania, and Vah Medoh. You will be a vital part to the Calamity's annihilation should it ever return. By accepting to control the ancient weapons, you swear your loyalty to Hyrule and all of its citizens. Chief Urbosa, do you accept?"
"I do." Urbosa said solemnly.
"Princess Mipha, do you accept?"
"I do," I replied. The confidence in my voice surprised me.
"Daruk, do you accept?"
"I do," the Goron replied.
"Then, by the power of Goddess Hylia, I designate you the Champions of the Divine Beasts."
We all genuflected to the princess and king, and then left the room single file.
A great sense of responsibility was sparked in me, and I was glad. Who would've thought that I, of all people, would be chosen to assist the Royal Family of Hyrule in defeating the Calamity?
Link stood in the hall, and he smiled at me. I smiled back, my heart skipping a beat. I walked up and stood next to him, the King following Daruk out of the Ceremonial Hall.
"You all did very well," he told us. "Now, to the Dining Hall!"
The King led us a short way down the hall to a pair of huge, heavy looking wooden doors. He pushed them open with ease and walked in. In the room, there was a long red carpet on the floor and a long table covered in platters full of steak, vegetables, cake, and other delicious looking food.
"You may sit where you would like," King Rhoam said, taking his seat at the head of the table. I followed Link to the opposite end, and sat next to him. Princess Zelda scoffed and walked to the other side of the table, sitting across from Link. She didn't bother me anymore. I knew Link cared about me, and that was enough.
"Help yourselves!" The King said. I leaned across the table and used a fork to pick up a few pieces of ham, along with some fried greens.
Zelda took only a small piece of cake, King Rhoam piled tons of food onto his plate, Urbosa took a modest amount, and Daruk took out some food of his own - Rocks, to be more specific. Link had a decent amount of food on his plate.
We ate in silence for awhile, until the wooden doors swung open.
"Sorry I'm late," I turned to see who was at the door. A tall Rito with blue feathers and a bright yellow beak walked through the door, taking a seat next to the King. "I had some business to take care of."
