You wear pink
You walk around in heels
You smile at everyone and everything
You seem to walk on air
But
I wear gray
I stay in a comfortable pair of boots
I haven't smiled in ages
I can't keep up there with you
But
I used to wear pink
I used to dance around in heels
I used to laugh with friends till it hurt
I used to float on clouds
But then
I started wearing gray under my pink
I switched to flats
I started pretending to enjoy myself
I started to go down
And then
I stopped hiding the gray
I switched to my easy boots
I stopped trying to please everyone else by seeming pleased myself
I land on the ground and it had this horrible thing called gravity
But
You still wear pink
You haven't noticed the shade I've become
You didn't miss the sounds of my heels clicking against the floor
You stopped caring that I wasn't sitting next to you anymore
You don't really care that I went down
Regardless
I hope you pose for pictures with your hand on your hip in a pink dress
I hope you jump around in your heals as they click about
I hope you feel at your best with giggling friends at your side
Because
It hurts that you don't hurt anymore, that you've given up and worn gray
It hurts to lace up the same shoes everyday and walk in them
It hurts that there are frown lines on your face that no one else has
It hurts to be gray
