Chris and I walked into my first hour English class, and saw there were already people there...Great. I looked up at Chris and said "You can sit with me if you want, it's fine." He nodded and we walked over to the teacher's desk. I ignroed the dirty looks and snickers of my classmates, and walked up to the teacher, Chris following behind me. My teacher looked up from his computer and asked "Hey Ricky, what can I help you with?" I pointed at Chris and said "Um, This is Chris..He's a new student here." He looked at Chris and nodded. "Well it's very nice to meet you, Chris, I look forward to having you in my class. You can sit with Ricky since this class is pretty full." He nodded and said "Okay, thanks."
He followed me towards the back of the room, and I sat down in my seat. The tables were adjoined, so you'd have to sit by someone. Luckily, no one ever sat with me. He sat in the seat next to me, and scooted closer. I raised an eyebrow at the action, but shrugged it off. He probably wanted to be as far away from these assholes, as I did. When the tardy bell rang, the teacher got up, walked over to the door, and closed it. "Alright guys, I know it must eb so exciting to have a new student here, but I expect you all to focus more on your work, than at Chris." He said, walking up to the front of the room.
He looked back at us and asked "Chris, do you prefer to be called Christopher, or just Chris?" He said "Just Chris." He nodded and said "Okay, no problem. Everyone, this is our new student, Chris. I expect you all to treat him kindly, or you will have to deal with me about it. Now Chris we do have a text book you will have to use for this hour, but all my extras are at home, so you can share with Ricky until then." He smiled and said "Okay." The teacher smiled and said "Alright, now that we have that out of the way, let's get started. Now for the next few weeks, we will be looking at the works of William Shakespear.." The whole glass groaned, and I sighed. "Oh I know, it's dreadful, I know. But William Shakespear is a brilliant writer, and I think you guys would enjoy his works. Now, I know you may have read this familiar story your Freshman year, but I wanna read it in this class. We are going to be reading a little story called Romeo & Juliet."
Groans filled the room, but I smiled a little..I like reading. "Now, turn in your books to page 434, and you should see the words DRAMATIS PERSONAE in bold letters. That is the list of characters in the story. I pulled my book out and turned to the page. I scooted closer to Chris since we had to share, and put the book in between the both of us. "Everyone on the same page?" We all nodded and he said "Okay, now we're going to go through the characters and who they are, then I will ask for volunteers to read."
After going through the all the characters and who they are, the teacher wrote all the characters names on the board. After he did that, he asked for voluunteers for the Prince, Paris, and Lord Montague. "Now that we have those taken characters taken care of, lets move on to the more important characters. Do I have any young men who would like to be young Romeo?" Not a single hand was raised. Everyone just looked around akwardly, until someone cleared their throats. Chris raised his hand up a little and said "I'll do it." the teacher smiled and asked "You'd like to read for Romeo?" Chris nodded and said "Excellent! Thank you, Chris!" he wrote Chris's name on the board. "Now, would anyone like to be Romeo's lover, Juliet? Any of the young ladies in here?"
I looked around and saw none of the girls raise their hands..Wow. Figured all of them would be killing each other for a leading role. "Oh come on, none of you ladies wanna be Juliet? Is there a flu going around, or something?" Still, none of them raised their hands. I sighed and raised my hand up. "I'll do it, I'll be Juliet." I said. All the guys except Chris, laughed and looked back at me. I just rolled my eyes and said "I'll do it." The teacher smiled and said "Alright, great Ricky. You other boys shouldn't be laughing at him. He's brave enough to read the part of a girl." I just shrugged and he wrote my name up on the board. I didn't really care about reading it. I'm usually quiet, but I figured I'd read, cause I don't wanna hear the annoying voices of the girls in here.
After all the parts were filled, we started reading. We got to the part where Romeo was moping over his crush, Rosaline and his friends, decided they should crash the part at the Capulets house, when the bell rang. "Alright guys, we'll continue reading tomorrow. Bring your books!" everyone close their books and walked out. I gathered up my stuff and Chris waited for me. "Why did you wanna be Juliet?" He asked. I shrugged and said "No one else was gonna do it, so I figured...Why not?" He nodded and chuckled. I raised an eyebrow at him and asked "What?" He shook his head and said "You're my lovely Juliet." I rolled my eyes and chuckled. "Shut up, dude." I slung my backpack over my shoulder and said "After you, dear Juliet." I playfully punched him and said "Shut up, Romeo." and we walked to out next class which was Science. Wow...I made another friend today.
