That girl

There was once a girl who was bullied by her crush's best friend and eventually her crush in kindergarten. That girl had a friend who stood up for her when she couldn't. Her friend was allergic to peanuts so, in their honor, she doesn't eat peanuts to this day. That girl left that school because of the bullies. She felt her first taste of heartbreak right then and there because she knew she would miss her friends, but knew it was for the best.

She went to a new school and made a good friend named Brooklyn. She didn't have a crush. She was still a little hurt from the last one. But, she had a good friend, and that's all she needed. But, she also had a bully. An enemy. A fake friend. The bully's name was Melissa. Melissa pretended to be that girl's friend, but she just used her. Melissa had a best friend: Cydya. Cydya saw what Melissa was doing and left her to be friends with that girl. That girl now had two supportive, amazing, best friends. But, that girl tested gifted and eventually decided to move schools. In the middle of third grade, that girl said goodbye to her friends once more.

When that girl walked into her new class on the first day, she said "hi" to the boy that was seated next to her. He said "hello" back. Then, for no reason, he said "hello" again. She said "hi" back. That was the first conversation of a very melancholy relationship. During recess that same day, she asked a girl named Angelica if they could be friends and Angelica said yes. That girl learned that the boy that sat next to her in class's name was Benjamin. The three quickly became close friends. That girl started liking a guy named James. He was just so mysterious, and had a low voice that made her shiver. But, then the guy came out as gay. That girl's heart was crushed, but she respected his decision and continued being friends with him.

That girl also became friends with a boy with anger issues named Jonathan. Together they formed the outcast group. James: a boy who already knows his sexuality in the third grade. Angelica: the girl who is called "ugly" and "fat". Jonathan: the boy who has a really short temper. Benjamin: a brilliant trickster, but called "weird" and "annoying". And finally, that girl: a mature young girl, understanding more than the average third grader. They all understood each other and respected each other. Everything was perfect.

For a while.

Suddenly, James started hanging out with some other kids. That girl accepted it, knowing that he had his own life. Then, near the end of her third grade year, Angelica moved away to Texas. Once again, that girl said goodbye to some of her closest friends.

At that beginning of fourth grade, that left her with Benjamin and Jonathan. That girl started getting a crush on Benjamin. He was just so different. He was mature and funny and clever. That girl really liked Benjamin. Mostly as a friend, but if he was interested in something more, she was down. Jonathan noticed and tried to help the two get together. But, near the end of the year, Jonathan got mean. He hurt that girl, physically. Whenever she disagreed with him, he twisted her pinkie. She eventually got the courage to tell someone and he got in trouble. After that, he stopped talking to her. That girl said goodbye to another one of her closest friends at the end of fourth grade.

But, she came out and told Benjamin that she liked him. And, on the last day of fourth grade, he said he returned those feelings. She felt so happy! She told him she would contact him over the summer. She did....once....

At the beginning of fifth grade, he said he had changed his mind about her over the summer. The girl felt crushed, but accepted it. She decided that she needed a break from Benjamin. She said she had a crush on a boy named Lucas, in order to throw people off and not have them bug her about Benjamin. It worked.

She then focused on getting new friends. She ended up becoming good friends with two sisters that lived in foster care named Desirae and Arion. She also became close friends with a boy named Valentino. That girl started getting a crush on Valentino. He was just so playful and had a high pitched voice that reminded her of simpler times. But then, he came out as gay. That girl's heart was crushed for the third time. From that day on she promised never to make someone feel like that. To never have to say "I'm sorry. I can't love you. I only like guys." or " I'm sorry. I can't love you. I only like girls." That girl decided, on that day, that she was bi.

Arion was transferred to a different foster home near the middle of the year, meaning she also had to leave the school. That girl never got to say goodbye.

Then, near the end of the year, Valentino and Desirae betrayed her. They started hanging out with her frenemy. So, that girl said a sad goodbye to her friends once again.

That left the girl with no one. So, she ran back to Benjamin. He was understanding and just an amazing friend. She then realized that he had been waiting for her. She smiled to herself whenever she thought about it.

The girl eventually got a phone over the summer and got Benjiman's number. They were texting often. They didn't end up going to the same middle school, but they said they would keep in touch.

Now, let's look at another part of our story, shall we? Middle school. That girl got a good locker. Easy to open. That girl tried to avoid crushes. They only ended in pain in her experience. She made friends quickly. The girl would rather not say their names. That girl had a premonition that something bad would happen. She was right.

One day, one of her two best friends started hanging out with some other people. That was fine for a couple of days. But, after a week and a half, that girl and her other best friend started getting mad. They ended up having a falling out, but did her best friend( the one that didn't leave) stay with her? No! She went with the girl that betrayed her. Once again, she said goodbye to (who she thought were) good, close friends.

While this was all happening, Benjamin stopped responding to her texts! She eventually gave up trying to get in contact with him. She had to say goodbye to the best friend she ever had.

After that she had friends, sure. But, she lacked the thing she wanted the most. A best friend. A friend that will stand up for you. A friend that will do anything for you. A friend that you can talk to and not be worried about messing up or being vulnerable. A friend that never leaves. A friend you can count on. A friend who can also rely on you to do all these things, but not seem like a burden. A friend who she thought she had so many times, but every time she had to say goodbye.

I know your probably thinking "who is this girl? Is she a friend of yours? Is she an original character?"

Let me clear up the mystery for you.

I am that girl.
