"What the hell were you thinking?!" Screamed Arthur Lynch or you could call him my father. I sure don't. I leaned back letting myself melt into the couch. Beside me sitting like a rock was probably the smelliest, dirtiest, hottest guy in the world.

I smirked and said, "Chill out, Arty. He did save my life and I figured I should repay him. Don't you want to thank the man who saved your own daughter?" I looked up at the woman standing uncomfortably behind my red faced father who was now gritting his teeth. "And what do you think, Katherine?"

She doesn't say anything but grabs Arthur and takes him into another room. I can hear him yelling and her trying to calm him down.

"I shouldn't have come here..." The voice caught me off guard because I had almost forgotten he was there.

"What are you talking about? They'll give in. TRUST ME. You saved my oh so precious life." I laughed a harsh laugh. He looked at me with distaste.

"There's something really wrong with you, princess. I'm homeless and not even I am that cynical."

I stared at him in shock and opened my mouth to reply when my parents came waltzing in.

Katherine was the first to speak. "Thank you very much for saving our Anna. We would like to offer you a reward. Anything you want. Just name it." She nudged Arty.

"Yes and to help you get off your feet we would like to offer you lodging", he said in almost robotic voice. "That is until we can find you a job."

I was in complete and utter shock. My mouth was almost reaching the ground. They were letting him LIVE here? I mean, yeah we have like 3 guestrooms but still. I didn't expect this outcome at all! They were being nice. Who are these people in front of me?

My hobo hero said, "I couldn't possibly..."

"You will stay here." Said my father more firmly and held out his hand. Hesitantly, the younger man took it and shook it.

"Thank you so much, sir." And then what happened almost made me think I was dreaming. My dad was smiling! Like a genuine smile that actually reached his eyes! All my memories of him smiling are those fake ones plastered on the tabloids.

"Call me Arthur and my wife, Kate. What your name son?"

"Luke. Luke Thompson."

"How old are you, Luke Thompson?"

"17, sir." Dad looked at him sternly and he stuttered, "I um mean Arthur."

Katherine intervened in a high pitched voice. "SEVENTEEN?! What in the world is a seventeen year old boy doing on the streets all by himself? Where are your parents?"

"Dead." Was all he said and left us all in an uncomfortable silence.

Then Arthur cleared his throat and said, "You should still be in school then. Your background doesn't matter at the moment you can tell us when you're ready to. We'll get you enrolled right away. You are probably in Annabeth's grade. She can show you around. For now I suggest you take a bath and I can lend you my clothes. Tomorrow is Sunday so you and I will go out and get you some..." he searched for the right word. "Suitable attire. Now, Annabeth go show him to a guest room."

I grumbled as I got off the couch. "Follow me." As we left the room he turned back to my parents and said, "Thank you so much. I'll find a way to repay you. I swear."

This time my mother smiled. What the heck was going on? They never smiled for me. Or anyone else for the matter. "Please, honey, it's our pleasure."

We get up to the second floor because that was the only guest room with a bathroom built in it. The only problem was that it was right across from my room. Yay...

"That's your room" I said pointing to the guestroom. "That is mine." I said pointing at the door opposite end of the hall.

He smiled. "What? Can't bear to be too far away from me?" What the heck? Where was the polite stiff downstairs? Everyone is being totally different today.

"Don't get any ideas. Now go take a damn bath. You smell like shit."

Wow, okay who's this bitch talking? Even I was being totally different. What's with this guy? He's turning my whole world upside down.

"Kay, babe. Whatever you say."

He opened the door and walked in. Just as the door was closing I whispered, "Thank you." It startled me when he said, "Anytime, princess" I hadn't expected him to hear me. My faced flushed and I ran to my room and slammed the door shut.
