Sophia

I stared down at our locked hands, "What?"

"I said-" He started. I cut him off, "I know what you said. And I'm saying what. Like how can this be? Aren't we too young?"

"I said that I think you were my mate. That doesn't specifically mean we are, well, until tomorrow at least." Carter said, he removed his hand from mine. I can't help but feel disappointed, I wouldn't doubt that we were mates. With all these feelings I'm getting that I haven't before? Highly doubt it.

I gulped down the sigh that wanted to escape my lips as Carter traced the tiny scars that were on my palm.

"What do you mean tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow I turn 15. The day a future Alpha finds his mate." Carter explained. I couldn't think straight with him staring at me like he was.

"Wait- Alpha?"

"Yeah. Upcoming Alpha of the Niyla Pack." His voiced held pride and a hint of joy.

"I'm in the Niyla Pack to!" I clutched his hand excitingly. I've never felt like this before.

"Really?" He looks surprised.

"Yeah, my dads Lukas Sparks." I said nonchalantly, but I knew he would make a big deal about it.

"Your dad is Lukas!" His eyes grew wide, he squeezed my hand harder. Out of excitement? I have no clue.

"Y-" The bell rang, cutting off my sentence. I sighed and reluctantly removed my hand from Carter's.

Quickly I put my stuff into my backpack, swinging it onto my back.

"Hey Sohpia, I have to make a stop at my locker. Catch ya' at next class."

I nodded and made my way out the door.

"Sophia!" I turned around to see Carter bustling through the crowd.

I stopped and waited for him to catch up to me, but not without getting pushed by some dude.

"Out my way, pup."

Carter growled low in his throat before grabbing my hand. "What class do you have next?"

"Um." I pulled out my schedule and handed it to him.

"Okay, cool. We have 5 out of 8 classes together."

I leaned over trying to get a look at mine and his schedule he was comparing. "So we have Math next?"

"Correct my wonderful mate." Carter said.

I stared at him as we made our way down the hall, hand in hand, "You say that, but are you really sure? I don't want you to get my hopes up if I'm not yours."

I slipped my hand out of his as we made our way into Math.

Carter growled and put my hand back in his, "You are my mate."

I merrily nodded and sat at the back of the room with Carter in the chair next to me.

Math was not my specialty.

"Morning class. I know it's the first day of 8th grade, but I want to see where you're at." The class groaned as the teacher said those words.

I let go of Carter's hand, immediately feeling a sense of irritation from my wolf.

I ignored her has the girl in front of me passed the paper back.

I took it, writing my name. "You may begin."

I sighed as I double checked my answers. Dad told me I needed to make the best grades that I could possibly get, and I didn't want to disappoint him, ever.

I flipped my test over and set my pencil down.

I looked to where Carter said, but found him already looking at me. An unreadable emotion in his beautiful green eyes. I turned my head away fast, unable to keep the blush that I feel creeping its way onto my cheeks.

I cant keep having these thoughts of Carter, not until I'm sure he's my mate!

I take deep breathes as I calm myself. I jump a little when a piece of paper makes contact with my arm.

I grab it and slowly unfold it,

You will never fully understand how beautiful you look when you blush, Sophia.

I cover my cheeks with my hands as the blush increases. How can he make me blush this much? I haven't even known him for a full day and he was making me feel more emotions than I have my entire life.

Love.

That word, that's the emotion I felt when I read what was on that little bitty piece of paper. I gasped and crumbled the paper up into a little ball, stuffing it into my backpack. I couldn't, no I wouldn't, throw it away.

How can I feel love? I'm only fourteen for moon's sake! Is this how it's supposed to feel with your mate? 'I'll ask mom.' I thought.

Ring

I pick up my bag, ready to walk out of the room but was pulled back.

"Um? What are you doing?" I ask Carter as he slips his hand into mine once again.

"Walking my mate to class, what else?" He says like it's the most natural thing in the world. Which is correct, except the fact that we aren't even sure if we're mates.

Carter pulled me along with him, "What class next?" We stood off towards some random lockers and other students passed by, giving us the occasional glance.

I pulled out the piece of paper from my back pocket, "Earth Science."

He nodded, some of his hair flying in different directions. I laughed.

"What?" He raises an eyebrow.

"Oh nothing." I laughed again, dragging him with me towards the direction I thought Earth Science was in.

Third period Earth Science and Fourth period Band went by quicker than I thought.

Yes, I'm in band.

"Well hello, Squidward." Carter laughed as he appeared at my side.

I groaned, "Is it necessary? You know, to call me Squidward?"

"Well you play the Clarinet, so it's only natural that I call you that." Was his reply.

"How is it natural?"

"I don't know." He shrugged, his shoulders brushing mine. If Carter wasn't holding my hand, at least one part of our body was always touching. I found it cute, how could I not?

"I have athletics this period, see you at lunch?"

"Of course." Carter grinned, pulling me in for a heart stopping hug. I put my arms around his waist, reveling in the feeling of having him this close to me at the same time.

I released, which took a lot of effort, and walked down the hall towards the gym. Turning to give him a final wave with a big smile on my face.
