"Mum!" An 11 year old Peter shouted from the living room as he did his jigsaw puzzle.
"Yes" Helen said as she put the dishes away.
"I have homework due tomorrow but I only have a few pages left so, can I finish my puzzle and then do it?" Peter asked.
"Of course, as long as you promise to not forget" Helen said laughing a little as Susan helped her put the dishes away.
"I'll make sure he remembers" Susan said, smiling a little. They were interrupted by a loud crash from upstairs and Susan sighed to herself. Suddenly there was the sound of crying.
"Lucy's upset..." Peter said, hearing his sister and rushing upstairs.
"One day he'll look after himself and not us" Susan said shaking her head.
Lucy was only 4 years old and she was very talkative for her age and extremely curious. Peter wasn't surprised to find her on the ground with her plastic tea set. Except for this time, the teapot was broken.
"Lucy...what happened?" Peter asked, picking up his little sister who was still crying.
"I....I was playing and......Ed..."
Peter sighed to himself, of course Edmund had something to do with it. He loved each of his siblings equally but it was difficult to not get angry with Edmund.
Peter put Lucy down "I'll mend it for you...I promise" Peter said before heading out of her room and straight into Edmunds.
His little brother was on the floor, playing with a tiny, plastic plane that his mum had gotten him for his birthday.
"Hi..." Edmund said when he saw Peter at the door, there was a hint of smile.
""Edmund, did you smash Lucy's teapot?" Peter asked crossing his arms.
"No...." Edmund lied, glancing sideways.
"Ed!" Peter snapped and his brother sighed.
"So what if I did..." Edmund said defensively.
"She's upset and you haven't even apologised.." Peter said.
"It was an accident. She wanted to have a pretend tea party with me and I said no. I was trying to play with my plane and I happened to...stand on her teapot and it smashed.." Edmund said, his voice getting slowly quieter.
Peter believed that it was probably Edmund just beings clumsy again.
"You're 7 years old Edmund, please act like it" Peter said and Edmund rolled his eyes.
"Aren't 7 year olds meant to have fun?" He asked "at least I'm not boring and 11 like you" He said with a laugh and Peter just smirked.
"You can laugh now but I'll always be the eldest" Peter said as he walked out with Edmund rolling his eyes again.

Peter was now 12 and still as mature and happy for his age. He was packing his lunch for school as Susan grabbed an apple for herself.
"The first day back at school is always interesting..." Susan said "besides, I'm finally starting secondary school. I feel grown up already" Susan said smiling and Peter just laughed.
"Trust me, you'll feel less grown up once we actually get there" he said and Susan giggled.
"Are you almost ready?" Helen asked, walking through. Peter and Susan both nodded.
"Alright well...have you packed lunch for your brother and sister too?" Helen asked anxiously and they both nodded again.
"Thank you" she said before rushing off.
"She panics too much" Peter said.
"She's our mother, it's what she does" Susan said shrugging.
Peter put his lunch in his school bag and headed to the door.
"Edmund! Lucy!" Peter called up the stairs "Come on! We can't be late!"
At that moment Edmund trudged down the stairs with a sigh. He didn't look happy at all. "I can't go in today..." he said sadly "because I really don't want to and my education is a mess anyways.." he said and Peter rolled his eyes.
"You're going whether you like it or not" Susan said "school is important"
Just then, Lucy came down the stairs after Edmund in her school uniform. She was practically jumping with excitement.
"First day of school!" Lucy squealed happily.
"First day of hell" Edmund muttered and Peter nudged him.
"You look so grown up Lucy" Susan said smiling as her sister twirled in her school dress.
"Come on, we better go" Peter said.
"Bye Mum!" They all shouted before heading outside to walk to school.
Lucy was new to walking to school but the others were used to it. She kept pointing at birds and she always had a spring in her step. Peter didn't let go of Lucy's hand because he knew that she was prone to running off.
"I can't wait for today, I have everything prepared!" Lucy said happily causing Peter to smile.
"You're extremely chatty for someone who's finally starting school" Susan said giggling as Lucy skipped along the path.
She immediately stopped when she saw an ice cream van on the other side of the road.
"Ice cream!" She said with excitement and even Edmund looked up in interest.
"Can we get ice cream?" Edmund asked Peter.
"Before school?" He said in disbelief before he saw how happy Lucy was.
"Sure...why not...I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have ice cream" he said and Lucy took off running, dragging Peter with her. Edmund ran after them, just as excited. Susan walked carefully as always.
They got to the ice cream van and Peter smiled.
"One vanilla, please" Peter said.
"With sprinkles!" Lucy exclaimed happily.
"With sprinkles" Peter repeated, smiling.
"Oh...Peter...can I have one too?" Edmund asked and Peter rolled his eyes.
"It's Lucy's first day of school, Ed" Peter said "that's why she's having ice cream...besides I don't have enough money for all of us" he said.
Edmund looked down and sighed.
"I'll have a strawberry" Susan said and Peter handed her the money and Edmund raised his eyebrows. Obviously Peter gave Susan and Lucy money for ice cream, but none to him.
He crossed his arms sadly as they all carried on walking, Lucy and Susan eating their ice cream.
"This is amazing!" Lucy said happily "I love vanilla ice cream with sprinkles!"
Edmund rolled his eyes, causing Peter to glare at him.
"Come on Lu, we're almost there" Peter said, smiling back at his sister.  The primary school and the secondary school were two buildings facing eachother so they all had to walk to the same location, just different buildings.
As usual Peter went into the primary school, needing to drop off Edmund and Lucy.
They waited at the gate as Susan and Lucy finished their ice cream and Edmund sat down, resting against the gate.
Lucy looked over at her brother who seemed to be sad. She slowly walked over to Edmund and held out her ice cream.
"Here..." Lucy said with a small smile.
Edmund looked up and seemed shocked at first before he slowly took the ice cream.
"Thanks..." he said quietly. He hadn't said thanks in a while.
Lucy smiled again before heading back to hold Peters hand, even Edmund smiled a little.
The school bell rang and Edmund got ready with his bag, about to head off to his classroom.
"Remember Lucy, your lunch is in the front of your bag and if you have any problems just tell the teacher alright" Peter said before hugging Lucy tightly, she hugged him back.
"I'll see you after school okay..." Peter said before him and Susan walked off, peter looking behind to check on Lucy before she was out of sight.
Once they were gone, Lucy's lip quivered and tears filled her eyes. Edmund was still walking off and he turned back and saw his sister looking scared. She looked around like she was lost, all of her excitement was gone. He looked at his classroom, knowing that if he went there now then he could sit with his friends and he wouldn't be late. Then he looked back at his sister and made an immediate decision.
Lucy wiped away her tears, her small hands shaking.
Edmund walked over to her and knelt down.
"Hey....how about we go in together?" He suggested, his voice calm. She'd never heard him sound genuine before. Lucy nodded slowly and Edmund smiled, holding Lucy's hand in comfort.
"It's just nerves, they'll go away because of how much fun you'll be having" he said which made Lucy smile as they headed into her classroom. They had names on the seats and Lucy looked around for hers.
"Have you found where you're sitting?" Edmund asked and Lucy nodded, rushing over to her seat. She stopped in her tracks before running back and hugging Edmund tightly.
Edmund wasn't usually one for hugs but he hugged her back.
"I'll be right back at 3pm, Alright" Edmund said with a reassuring smile.
"You promise?" Lucy asked.
"I promise" he said before walking out of Lucy's classroom as she rushed to her seat.
