John swallowed hard and took a deep breath "You can do this!" He looked down at the ring "Wait what if she doesn't like the ring? What if she says no?" John in the simplest of terms was panicking. He started pacing the room, something he often did when he was trying to calm down. "You've been together for two years it makes sense, honestly it's kind of overdue. And you know she doesn't suspect anything because of course you'd do something special for an anniversary. It'll be okay." He tried to reassure himself. He cleared his throat "You ready Brooke?"
"Yeah be out in a second"
Brooke stepped out of their bedroom and gave John her winning smile hoping it'd convince him she was alright. She wasn't too worried though it's just their anniversary she can do this.
"Ready when you are"
They step out of the house together, Brooke holds onto Johns arm almost two tightly like she was scared that if she let go he'd float up into the sky like a balloon.
"You alright?"
"Hm? Oh yeah I'm fine"
John has planned everything out until the very last detail but he's always like that. Precise and meticulous. He had recreated their first date; they went to the same restaurant and walked down to the same beach.
"This beach looks familiar!" Brooke jokes
They'd been here so many times.
"Do you remember what I said?" John asked
"Every word. You said Madam would you honor me with a dance? Even though there wasn't any music, you said that's okay we'll make our own. It was very romantic and a little cheesy."
John blushed, he really couldn't believe she remembered that after all this time.
"Would you like to make music again?"
"More than anything."
They danced again just like they had before. They laughed and spun around in the sand leaving traces of where they had been.
"Hey Brooke, close your eyes"
"Why?"
"Please just do it you can trust me"
Brooke slowly closed her eyes and she truly had no idea that John had a ring in his pocket the whole time. She had absolutely no clue that right at this moment he got down on one knee.
"Okay you can open them"
"Alright but you better have not grabbed a spider or something to scare me"
"This won't scare you or at least I hope it won't."
Brooke's eyes fluttered open to see John and an open ring box with a ring sitting inside.
"John..."
"Hey you're supposed to let me go first!" John had his signature goofy smile, he tended to get that when he was nervous.
"Brooke we've been together for two years and they've been the most wonderful years of my life. To be honest with you it took everything I had to not go out and buy a ring and propose on the very first date. Because I have always loved you. From the moment we met I loved you. And every second I'm with you somehow I fall in love a little more. I am so lucky to be with you I really can't believe someone as beautiful and amazing as you is with me. If you'd let me I'd like to make music with you forever. Brooke Anna Kingston will you please marry me?"
Brooke was crying. Tears streamed down her face and dotted the sand.
"Uh oh is this a good cry or a bad cry?"
Despite her weeping John had made her smile. He always does that.
"John..." She hesitated, could she do this?
"Yes I'll marry you"
John picked her up and spun her around
"I can't believe you said yes!"
Brooke smiles at him when he put her down. He slid the ring on her hand, it was a perfect fit.
