Nine Years Later...

It was my eighth birthday and my father was having his daily bowl of cereal trying to collect his heavenly figurines that came in the box. He is also having his thrice or more daily shot of whisky.

"Happy Birthday, son," my father said drowsily.

I nodded to him in approval. I didn't really know what to say to him while he drank alcohol, he could get a bit crazy sometimes.

"Can I have some of that cereal please Dad?"

I thought that maybe on my birthday my Dad could be generous enough to give me some of his special breakfast.

"Son, you know I'm collecting the figurines when I've finished the collection you can eat as much as you want to," my father replied. Typical, even on my own birthday he wouldn't share. My father poured the cereal into his bowl emptying the contents looking for the microscopic figurine. He sighed disappointed of his failure to find the toy. Taking his first spoon of cereal, I noticed a tiny figurine of a little woman. From what I could see she had chestnut hair, white skin and a wicked grin. Before I could say anything, my father had put the spoon of cereal along with the little woman in his mouth. His face started to turn red and he was hysterically coughing.

I was shaking. I had never been so terrified. I quickly called the ambulance.

"Hello, what is the nature of your emergency we..."

"My Dad is choking come over and fix him, now!" I shouted into the phone.

"We will be there soon."

Those words were the only thing I could hold on to now because my father lay still on the floor.

When the ambulance came, it was too late. I sat there hugging the corpse of my deceased father. The nurses pulled out a little figurine from his throat, the same one I saw go in. Its wicked grin never faded.
