you walked through the door after a long day of university. (in which was kicking your arse) you missed your bus, causing you to be absolutely soaked. you hung your drenched raincoat on the hook and kicked off your boots harshly.

"why hello my lily."
freddie said looking up from the piano after hearing your boots hit the floor.

my lily. a little name freddie made for you last spring after he picked a lily and put it behind your ear when you strolled through the meadow on a lovely sunny day. it was sweet and you couldn't help but smile whenever he called you that. but besides the point you were still being humoured by freddie.

"hello."
you said plainly, obviously annoyed with your day.

"someone having a bad day i see?"
freddie joked, as it looked like you had gone for a dip in the pool.

"that was a lovely little song you were playing."
you told him, trying to change the subject as you dropped your bags on the floor.

"erm yes it's the ballad for the new album. it will play off that one song you liked, flick of the wrist. it's not very long."
freddie said looking up at you from the bench.

you sat down beside him and rested your head on his shoulder.

"can you sing it for me?"
you sighed batting your eyelashes looking up at him from his shoulder.

"oh i suppose i could for you..."
freddie stated purposefully overplaying the sentence with a smirk on his face.

the man started by cracking his knuckles, then began to play the beginning of the song. it was delicate, yet somehow also dramatic, it sent shivers down your spine as he played.

"i am forever searching high and low,
but why does everybody tell me no-"

as the man sang your heart was struck. the pitch of his vocals caressed your ears as you sunk back into the feeling.

neptune of the seas
have you an answer for me, please and the lily of the valley
doesn't know

as he sang the words 'lily of the valley' you could hear a smile in his voice, and it made you smile too.

you watched as his fingers clad with rings danced across the keys, each one perfectly being pressed to create a piece that enthralled you so.

i lie and wait with open eyes, i carry on through stormy skies,
i follow every course,
my kingdom for a horse

but each time i grow old

that last line was sung with a different passion, one you could feel in the depths your soul. haunting.

yes of course you loved freddie and queens' music, and have listened to countless songs that you enjoyed very much so, especially complimented with freddie's voice. but this one made you freeze in awe. you couldn't really even react as he played, you just sat right there beside him on the bench in pure and utter wonder of how something so hypnotizing and captivating could come out of your living room. from the love of your life.

messenger from seven seas has flown
to tell the king of rhye he's lost his throne

the words were quite complex, and to be perfectly honest with yourself, you didn't understand the meaning, but you didn't have to.

you looked up from his fingers and looked up at him to see him singing. you loved to watch him sing. it's the little things about him. the way his eyes squeezed shut when he sang powerful lines, the way his bottom lip would quiver on the vibrato, the way you could tell he loved what he created, and that's what made it all so beautiful.

wars will never cease,
is there time enough for peace?
but the lily of the valley
doesn't know...

as he finished the song, he played a little bit of an extra riff on the piano to play up the ending.

after a moment of silence he looked over beside you with a look of "did you like it?"

you couldn't form words though!
how could you really? it was pure poetry, an exquisite work of art.

your mouth opened slightly and you stumbled over your words.

"uh- i- freddie that was absolutely gorgeous."
you said honestly, still quite taken aback from the piece.

"you think so?"
freddie asked, a smile playing on his lips.

"yes! oh my goodness, it-"
you began.

"i wrote it for you my dear."
freddie said smiling a toothy grin.

your cheeks turned pink, as you gave a truly appreciative beam.

"did you and the boys come up with a name for the album yet?"
you asked, thinking back to them struggling to find a suitable name.

"sheer heart attack."
freddie answered, obviously quite pleased with the name.

"ooh i like it, it's different."
you smiled, flipping through the sheets of music for the album.

"much like your hair right now dear."
freddie laughed, referring to the frizzy mess it was because of the humid weather.

"oh shut up!"
you playfully threatened, hitting the man on the shoulder.
