I starred at Ashton for a few moments, to bewildered to say anything. Shifting my weight, I made leaves crunch under my feet, causing him to stir. He sat up and opened his eyes. We both gave each other confused looks, before he finally opened his dumb mouth and said something.
"What are you doing here, " he spat angrily.
"Me?, what are you doing here, " I replied defensively.
"I've been coming here almost everyday for this past month, so you have no right to get all territorial, brat. "
"I come here all the time, " I lied. I hadn't been to tobacco hill in over a year.
"Well, I've never seen you here. " He put his cigarette back in his mouth, and turned away from me. I was tired of this. I didn't understand why we were always like this. I sat down next to him, and he looked over at me, an almost bored expression on his face.
"Can I have one of those, " I said, nodding my head towards his cigarette. He pulled out his lighter and and a cigarette, handing them to me in silence. As I inhaled my first breath, I realized why I had been so fond of smoking in this place. I immediately relaxed as I breathed out, sinking into the grass, and watching the world around me move in slow motion. As I begun to think about my guest, I made a decision.
"Look, I think we got off on the wrong foot, " I suddenly spoke. He looked up at me curiously. "So, lets just say, we both apologize and its over with that, okay? "
"Yeah, sure, " he agreed dully.
"So what brings you here anyways. "
"I don't know, I guess I just got bored one day, and walked over here. I kinda found it by accident. " He chuckled silently. I noticed he had dimples when he smiled, something I had never seen before.
"So, Ash, " I said playfully, a small smile spreading on my face, " I guess that means you and I live pretty close, huh. "
"I guess so, Elizabeth, " he smiled back. (oh god. His dimples)
"And we both like to come here a lot. "
"Mhm. "
"We could maybe try and be friends ..." I waited hopefully. Maybe I didn't like to admit it, but I kinda liked this Ashton Irwin guy. I liked his style and sass. We could at least try and be friends.
After a few silent seconds, he sat up straight and looked over at me.
"Yeah, I suppose I'd be down for that, Elizabeth. " He looked over at me and smiled. I actually didn't mind when he called me that.
"So its settled then, Ash. We are here by buddies, no take backs. "
He laughed loudly.
"No take backs, eh? " he asked playfully.
"Yup, pal. Its a commitment. "
"Hmmm, you got a deal, Elizabeth. " We shook hands, as we giggled to one another. I noticed at times Ashton laughed like a schoolgirl and others like he was choking on a hot pocket. I thought it was kinda cute, but we were just friends, and that's all we would ever be. Right?
