For this story, I really wanted to do something involving Norse mythology and mainly Loki. I decided to use the Marvel Cinematic version of Loki instead of the Norse one. They are mostly the same characters with a few differences here and there. Same goes for the characters of Odin, Frigga (actually Frig in Norse Mythology), Heimdall, Hela, Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three.

For the Valkyries, I know that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they do ride Reaping Mares and they don't have wings. Also the battle between them and Hela takes place when Odin was young. The leader of the Valkyries in Marvel is Brunnhilde, but I wanted to change her to a character of my own which resulted in Sigrun. Asena and Eira are also characters of my own invention. I decided that I wanted my Valkyries to be more based on Norse mythology so I chose to give them wings, their armor, and their reaping tasks.

Why did I choose to write a romance? Yes, they are very popular to write, but I wanted mine to be more based on the development of the characters and my own ideas on Loki as a whole. While watching the movies, I felt like there was a lot more to the story than what we've been told. I don't doubt that some of that will be addressed in the Disney/Marvel Loki series that is underway. However, I had ideas of my own and I wanted to put them into story form.

I feel like there should be another reason to Loki going over the edge besides jealousy. With many of his lines, I feel like he hints towards a lost love. This is just my own idea and it's definitely not canon so do not quote me on this. But he says one line in particular to Thor during Thor: The Dark World, that makes me think he's speaking from experience.

"This day, the next, a hundred years is nothing. It's a heartbeat. You'll never be ready. The only woman whose love you prized will be snatched from you." – Loki

From this quote, even though it's directed to Thor, I derived different meanings from it. He says that their time spent together is as short as a heartbeat and can be snatched away in the blink of an eye. He says you could never be ready, probably for the pain and heartache that follows. Then he says she is snatched away forever. I personally think he knows this from experience and wants to ensure his brother does not experience the same as him.

Thus, the inspiration was born. Feyre became a character dear to me and I am sad to see her go, but she really made my vision come to life on paper. I knew I had to make her death sad and sudden, but also make it tie into the movies to fit my personal ideas which were the reason behind the whole thing. Hence the reason why she was a Valkyrie and died at Hela's hand. Her dying and not letting Loki see her memories is a perfect setup to why Loki was so desperate to see Valkyries or Brunnhilde's during Thor: Ragnarök. He wanted to see what Feyre saw when she died. Again, and I can't stress this enough, it's just a personal idea and opinion.

So that's pretty much all I have to say about it. Thank you so much for reading this. It's my first fan fiction ever and I'm actually really happy with how it turned out. Let me know what your ideas and theories are. I'd love to hear everyone else's ideas.
