Chapter Five

Teenager still missing-

14-year-old Jayne Mills was last seen at a high school party where local boy Connor Houston was murdered. According to DHPD, there is no connection between the murder and the disappearance. Although police are ruling out kidnapping as Senior Officer Anthony W. Jude explained, " In a kidnapping case the kidnappers would have to release a ransom within 24 hours of the kidnapping with some form of the date and keep updating the image daily. A ransom would have been filed by now. We believe this could just be another case of a runaway teen." So far no one has come forward with any information about the case but DHPD is urging anyone who believes they know something about the girl to inform them.

Looking at the recently printed article, Charlotte had her fingers crossed, hoping someone knew something about Jayne's disappearance. The whole of JIU was searching for her, looking thoroughly into every clue, but the results continued to be a false trail. Charlotte couldn't help but think that she didn't want to be found, as she was an elite agent, who knew exactly how to disappear without a trace. The only piece of valuable evidence was her jacket, she'd been wearing, drowned in water. Thanks to state of the art technology at the Dublin Heights Lab and Research Facility, Charlotte was able to discover a trace of DNA, thanks to the help of Violet Gold, a Nobel prize-winning scientist with access to the technology. Violet had spent all night analysing the jacket and finally had the results. Two sets of DNA prints were on the jacket; Jayne's and her own.

Evangeline thought she was doing well, all things considered. She wasn't retiring to her bed like most people would when they found out that their partner was cheating. She didn't even bat an eye when her sister's best friend disappeared. Evangeline had even gotten her results back confirming her future as a detective and with the spur of the moment decided she'd go out to a bar, as a one-off, to celebrate.

As she sat on the cold hard bar stool in the corner of The Eagle's Nest, Evangeline sipped her Rosé. Sweeping her eyes over the drab scene at the local pub she caught the eye of a stranger who was shamelessly staring at her. When their eyes met he winked at her before slinking his way over. Evangeline felt her cheeks heat up, Brayden and her weren't even officially split yet and she wasn't sure if she was ready to meet people yet!

"Can I take a photo of you?" He asked as he came over, "So I can tell Santa Claus what I want for Christmas."

Evangeline burst into laughter at his attempt at a pickup line, "Where did you even come up with that?" she giggled.

"My friend told it to me. I'm James Addington," he smirked and offered his hand,

"Nice to meet you, Mr Addington," Evangeline shook his hand while trying to suppress her grin.

"And does the lady have a name?"

"Evangeline."

"Well Lady Evangeline, care to accompany me on a date tomorrow night?" Evangeline's face fell- she had work.

"Or" he continued seeing her face, "Why not go now? There's no time like the present."

James held out his hand, taking it into her own, Evangeline was whisked away to the chill of the night.

It was starting to get late but the action in the office didn't die down. Chief Henderson sighed as he lifted his feet up onto the desk. It had been a rough few weeks for the chief, he was exhausted, however, a knock on the door disturbed him from drifting off. The door slowly opened, revealing a short, blonde haired lady. "Taylor!" he exclaimed.

"Dad!" she said as she gave him a hug.

"I thought you were away."

"I was but Aaron was missing home too much."

"So what brings you here?"

"He said he had some business to do, so I thought I would come to visit. So how are you?"

"To be honest, it's very stressful, there have never been these many deaths since, forever."

Before Taylor could answer, Officer Jude, slipped in. "Sorry to interrupt sir."

"Not a problem, Anthony this is a friend of mine, Taylor."

"Pleasure to meet you, Taylor, however, the mayor wishes to speak to you, sir."

"Thank you, Anthony."

Jayne wasn't sure how long she'd been stuck in the concrete prison, but it felt like a very long time. She knew the whole of JIU would be looking for her, however, their search seemed to be unsuccessful so far. She wasn't having much luck escaping on her end as her captures were professionals when it came to kidnapping. She'd only seen two people in her time there but she knew that they had associates because of the way they addressed the situation.

"Look, all I'm saying is that it was a stupid mistake and that I think we should just kill the girl and change the evidence."

"But what about Vee if this gets out she'll go down for the fall, it's her fault after all."

"Isadora, we're a team, if one of us goes down, we all go down one way or another."

"So Essie what do you propose we do?"

"We ditch the girl, use chloroform and take her to the shed, if she can escape from there she'll die trying to find civilization anyway."

"And if she makes it?"

"Plant some idea in her mind that she was taken by the Ellison's, if they go down for this it'll only make our work easier."

"What about the evidence?"

"Vee is working on it, so, if she, say, I don't know, was cleaning the lab and got startled by something and miss-aimed with the bleach, I don't think that would be a problem. Do you? I mean she's bound to make mistakes sometimes."

Esme Hart had just put down the phone after having a hectic conversation with an agent from the Cougar Foundation. "I've just had a realization!" Chief Henderson blurted out, as he approached Esme's desk.

"What would that be sir?"

"West disappearing, the death of Elmsworth, Middleton death, Mr Ellsion's and the boy at the party are all connected."

"That is a possibility-"

"What if West isn't missing, he's dead and whoever killed him, killed the others."

"But why would someone kill so many people in such a short time. These deaths are well thought out."

"You're right, perhaps, there was more than one executing these innocent people."

"I don't think they're so innocent, every villain has a motive."

"Perhaps they owed the killers money of some sort."

"Why would a sixteen-year-old owe someone money?"

"Maybe, something else. Look into his background, see if anything is shady." The head in charge walked back towards his office stopping in the break room first, leaving with a mouthful of cake. Esme picked up the phone and dialled the number of which she just hung up on.
