"Why hello there flower, where do you think your going?" My body freezes, betraying my minds screaming orders to run away as fast as I can. His dark eyes stare into mine, resembling a starving wolf. I figured I was a juicy rabbit that was going to be eaten for dinner. I looked down the hall with a quick glance, wanting not to break the gaze I had on the wolf.

"W-what do you want with me?" I finally managed to squeak out. He clucked his tongue.

"All will be revealed, I promise." He reaches out his hand as if he expects me to take it. Hesitant, I reach for his hand cautiosly. Just as my fingertips brush his, my head goes dizzy, my vision blurring and my knees feeling even weaker.

"W-what was in the food?" I spit out, the words starting to slur together.

"Ah, you mean the corpse flower root? Yes, I had to travel all the way to the mortal realm to get it. Such a beautiful thing and yet so dangerous." I search my mind for the flower, hoping the memory will reveal itself. That's when it hit me.

The corpse flower was a rare flower that only blooms every 7 to 10 years. I only knew this because of my obsession with mortals, it just happened to pop up in one of my books I owned. It was big and named after the horrid smell of dead corpses it let off. And there was one other thing. Its roots were deadly. Even with just a tiny bite out of it can send your heart racing, you temp climbing and your brain to start hallucinating and forgetting what was real and what wasn't. I knew what a little of consumption could do, but i'm not sure how much I consumed.

My hands were shaking uncontrollably. My knees finally gave out and I fell to the ground with a loud slam. The little vision I had had disappeared, only able to hear the sound of the Bryce's voice.

"Astrid, my sweet baby. Just listen to the man. He will help you, I promise." I jump at the new voice. It felt so far away, yet so close. The voice sounded familiar, but as if I hadn't heard it in a long time. I search for the missing piece of information in my brain as I slowly lost consciousness. Right when I was about to fade for good, a memory popped into my head.

"Mom?" I squeaked out.

"Yes darling, i'm here." those were the last words I thought I would ever hear my mother say to me.
