OLIVIA TURNER SAT SILENTLY in the dimly lit diner of griddy's donuts at what one would consider a late hour. her eyebrows furrowed as her pen flew across the pages of her worn down journal while she wrote yet another story of superheroes and villains. everyone around town often talked about the young girls wild imagination and delusional stories calling her crazy behind her back, but of course the fiery red head was too caught up in her own thoughts to care about what the towns folk thought of her. if it wasn't for the obnoxious sound of a bell being rung next to her olivia wouldn't have noticed the two other people in the donut shop, one being a man in a tow truck uniform and the other being a boy that looked about the same age as herself wearing a schoolboy uniform. olivia took a sip of her green tea while glancing over to her left to try and get a better look at him while agnes came out from the back room."sorry, sink was clogged." agnes chuckled before taking out a notepad and a pencil. "so what'll it be?" "uh, give me a chocolate éclair." the tow truck guy answered, as agnes hummed in response while writing his order down. "can i get the kid a glass of milk or something?" the donut shop owner questioned while gesturing to the boy a couple seats away from olivia. the boy scoffed, "the kid wants coffee, black." while smiling sarcastically. "cute kid" agnes complemented confused before walking off to fetch a black coffee and a chocolate éclair.
"i don't remember this place being such a shithole." the strange boy sighed which only made olivia tune into what the they were saying even more. "i used to come here as a kid. snuck out with my brothers and sisters and ate donuts till we puked. simpler times, huh?" these statements puzzled the red head drastically, the boy seemed rather young what does he mean when he says 'as a kid'?
"i suppose." the tow truck driver responded probably just as confused as olivia. agnes returned while handing the boy his coffee and the man his éclair, "i got his." "thanks.." the mysterious boy trailed off before looking at the mans uniform. "you must know your way around the city." "i hope so, i've been driving it for 20 years." olivia heard him ask the man about an address before she started to stare off into space.however she snapped out of it when she heard the boy talk again. "that was fast..i thought i'd have more time before they found me." olivia looked over to see a man dressed in all black pointing a gun at the boys head, there was actually numerous men dressed in all black with guns in their hands within the small donut shop. "so let's all be professional about this, yeah? on your feet and come with us.
they want to talk." the man with the gun pointed at the boys head said with a blank expression on his face. olivia slowly pulled her journal towards her chest, ready to run if shots were fired. "i've got nothing to say." the boy in stated nonchalantly. is this kid nuts? or is he nuts?"it doesn't have to go this way.
you think I want to shoot a kid? go home with that on my conscience?" the man replied looking down at the boy with his gun still pointed right at him. "well, I wouldn't worry about that...you won't be going home" and just like that the boy teleported stabbing the man in the neck with a butter knife causing him to shoot the lights on the ceiling accidentally. olivia grabbed her tea and threw it on one of the mens face making him yell out in pain before she jumped behind the counter for cover with her journal clutched close to her body in her pale hands. olivia heard a warp-like sound then someone yell, "hey, assholes." before more gunshots sounded within the enclosed area of griddys donuts. the mysterious boy appeared next to her which almost made her scream before she realized she was now outside of the donut shop. the boy knocked on the glass door, doing a little solute before disappearing again, right before another one of those men started shooting through the glass at him. olivia ducked and wondered why her body wouldn't let her get up and flee from the scene.there was a couple long moments of silence while the girl sat there with her legs tucked in, her face between her knees and her arms over her head with her journal and pen in hand. she heard footsteps coming towards her which only scared her more. "hey, are you alright?" olivia looked up shakily to see no other then the strange boy that she could've swore was long gone. "uh, yeah i just didn't expect gallons of blood with my green tea tonight.." she answered still shaking in fear. the boy chuckled before helping her off the ground, she dusted her jeans off before tucking her journal under her arm to shake the boys hand. "my name's olivia, but you can call me liv if you want." the boy looked at her hand for a second as if contemplating something in his head before taking her hand in his and shaking it softly. "i'm number five." the boy answered letting go of olivia's hand. olivia thought for a second before opening up her journal to a blank page.."do you prefer number, or five?" she questioned, ready to write down his answer. this made five laugh, something he hasn't done for a long time. "five." olivia nodded before writing down the word five in her journal with a circle around it so she won't forget him.
five stared at the girl in curiosity as she closed up her journal and looked back up at him. "do you have anything to do right now?" this took olivia by surprise which caused her to raise her eyebrows slightly, no one ever wants to willingly hang out with her so she wasn't quite sure how to react. "um, no my step brother is out of town at the moment so i don't have to be home early." olivia responded cautiously, scared that she would mess up her one chance of having a friend. "great, come on." five said before grabbing her wrist and pulling her to the car he was using. she climbed into the front seat and buckled her seatbelt with her journal resting in her lap. "wait, you know how to drive?" olivia asked confused. "liv, sweetheart, i know how to do everything." five answered looking at the red head with a smirk on his face. he then proceeded to look ahead while turning the keys making the engine sputter and turn over. olivia blushed slightly at five's actions before asking herself a question that she never thought she'd ask.
'is this the kind of guy mom told me to stay away from?
