Lights. Music. Laughter.
All aspects that make up the life inside of Karasuno Heights, a small karaoke place just outside of Tokyo.
Outside, however, lay the dirty streets, abandoned convenience stores, and deafening traffic. Despite being surrounded by darkness, Karasuno Heights shines brightly.
Bokuto Kotaro is the same way. As a child, everyone tried to cover his color with dullness. His parents, friends, and peers all pushed him away for loving men instead of women. He was just about to give in, when he met a friend that would change his life, Kuroo Tetsuro. He was the only person that showed him that it was okay to be himself. Alongside him, he let his beautiful colors show and found himself in the process.
Now, several years later, he finally found somebody who can make his colors shine even brighter.
"AWgAShi!" Bokuto exclaimed as he found his and Kenma's table. "I'm so happy you came!"
Akaashi smiled. "I am happy that you are here as well. I see you let your hair down today."
Bokuto nodded and the two continued to smile at each other.
Kenma made eye contact with Kuroo, who was right behind Bokuto, and raised his eyebrows and glanced towards the two lovebirds.
"Right! Uh—babe, can I talk to you for a second?" Kuroo asked as he pulled Kenma away from their table.
As they left, Bokuto sat next to Akaashi. Although it was quiet for a few minutes, they both enjoyed each other's company.
"So what do you think of the place?" Bokuto asked, moving closer to Akaashi.
"I think it is very nice," He said. "Why did you choose here of all places?"
"I just really like the vibe here, I guess. It makes me feel like I'm welcome to be myself and sing my gay little heart out."
"You're not scared of singing in front of other people?" Akaashi asked, surprised.
Bokuto shrugged. "Eh, not really. Everyone's here to have a good time, so I doubt that they came to critic my singing abilities. Plus, nobody in this part of Japan is gonna be the next John Legend."
"I have never thought about like that." He said, crossing his arms. "Despite what you are saying, I do not know if I will be able to sign up for a song."
"Don't worry, nobody's making you do anything you don't want to do."
"Yeah, I guess."
Bokuto turned to face Akaashi. "Hey, while you decide on what you're gonna do, how about we play a game?"
Akaashi uncrossed his arms. "Okay, what game?"
"Truth or dare!"
"Sure, I do not see why not."
Bokuto clapped his hands. "Yay! Okay, I'll go first. Truth or dare, Awkashi?"
"Truth."
"Lame! Fine, what is your deepest darkest fear?"
Akaashi raised his eyebrows and laughed. "Starting off strong, are we? Anyway, I would have to say that I am afraid of disappointing those around me—especially my mother."
"You could never disappoint me," Bokuto said, looking Akaashi in his stormy eyes.
"Moving on, truth or dare?"
"Dare!" Bokuto yelled as he made some silly pose.
Akaashi looked around and saw the sign up sheet. "I dare you to sing Baby by Justin Bieber!"
Bokuto got up. "Aight, bet!"
After waiting in line for a couple minutes, the dreaded music started playing. Bokuto grabbed the mic and put on a pair of sunglasses he had in his pocket.
"Ohh wooaaahh~" He sang, completely off-key.
Akaashi couldn't help but laugh as he continued singing. He wished that he could have Bokuto's confidence. All of a sudden, Akaashi got butterflies in his stomach. I'm not falling for him, I'm not falling for him, he thought, trying to convince himself.
As soon as Bokuto sang his last words, the audience roared with applause. He jokingly bowed and blew kisses to the crowd.
On his way back to the table, Bokuto asked, "So, how'd I do?"
Akaashi smiled. "You did amazing! The crowd loved you!"
Bokuto snickered. "Did you love me, too?"
As soon as they both realized what he said, they both blushed.
"Yes, of course," mumbled Akaashi. "Anyway, I choose dare."
"Um, I dare you to sing a duet with me the next time we come back here!"
"Bokuto—"
"It'll be fun, I promise! I'll even let you pick out the song!"
Akaashi thought about his offer for a while, and decided to go though with the dare after seeing the puppy-like look on Bokuto.
"Yay! Since Kenma and Kuroo aren't here yet, I want to tell you something."
"What is it?"
Bokuto took a deep breath and smiled. "Akaashi Keji, I like you, in fact, I like everything about you! From the way you talk so formally, to the way you light up when you talk about how much you love art."
Akaashi's face turned pink once again as he sat there, speechless.
"I like how nicely you dress and how beautiful you are. I like how your smile can make my night, and a goodnight text from you is the only thing that can let me fall asleep. I've liked you since that morning when I gave you the keys you dropped. I'm really falling for you, Akaashi, and I hope you're falling for me."
Quietly, Akaashi pushed the grey hair out of Bokuto's face. He moved closer to him as he leaned his face towards his. "Of course, I am falling for you, dumbass."
Bokuto smiled as his hand pulled Akaashi's face closer to his. What happened next was straight out of a fairytale: They kissed, and it felt like their happily ever after.
From a distance, Kuroo high-fived Kenma and took picture to tease them about it on the drive back home.
