A/N: I love history but I don't know why I'm SOO drawn to the dark side of history. Yet, so much of this history happened during the Wild West Era, a time filled with wars, violence, political corruption, monopolies, economic strife in some moments and more.

If you can't accept this history then consider this a warning.

Below is my research so far, as I continue to study I wish to take a path that clicks this book together as a sort of pre-sequel to my other  (Gilded Era and WW1) history books. I thought you might like it and feel free to say "hey, I'd like Cole to shoot it up here, or brawl here" or make suggestions. I love history 😊.

Events

Sherman's March to the Sea: Nov. 15-Dec. 21 1864

Battle of Camarón April 30, 1863. (65 Frenchmen led by Jean Danjou fought 3,000 Mexicans for 10-hours. Only 3 men survived and once Campos brought the trio to Milán, he asked, "Is this all of them? Is this all of the men who are left?" Then, in amazement, he exclaimed, "These are not men! They are demons!")

Formation of 1st Klan, on Dec. 24, 1865 six Confederate veterans from Pulaski Tennessee made the KKK

The Knights of the White Camelia is formed by an ex-Democratic-Confederate army Colonel on May 22, 1867 in Louisiana. (Affiliate of the KKK)

Butler's General Order No. 28 on May 15, 1862 in New Orleans Major General Benjamin Butler aka "The Beast" decreed that if any woman so much throw an insult or show contempt for a Union soldier they can be treated like a harlot. Basically raped. It was so appalling that even England and France protested it. (Underline simply added for lack of confusion, 'No. 28' means 'number 28'.)

New Orleans riot, July 30, 1866. Radical Republicans convened at the Mechanics Institute (now University Place) before a mob came and the cops actually helped.

The Compromise of 1877 pulls troops from South.

The Crime of '73, on February 12, 1873.

Panic of 1873, from 1873-1879 was the "Long Depression" but economic stagnation lasted two-decades (basically till 1893). The Panic of 1873 was known as the Great Depression before the 1930's.

Panic of 1893, another Depression from 1893-1897. As a result, unemployment was 25% in Penn, 35% in New York, & 43% in Michigan. Soup kitchens were put up, people chopped wood, broke rocks, and sewed by hand with needle and thread for food. The poverty and starvation was so bad some women resorted to prostitution to feed their families.

Lincoln's Assassination: April 14, 1865

Sand Creek Massacre: Nov. 29 1864

Last Battle of Civil War, Palmito Ranch: May 12-13 1865

Second Intervention of France into Mexico 1861-1867

Characters/The Gang

Miguel Sánchevós (Refugee of the Fall of Mexico City 1863)

Rev. Antonio Anna-Santiago (fictional 4th survivor of the Battle of Camarón. Affectionately called Demon, Santa Anna, and Reverend Peg-Leg.)

Charles Mercer (Confederate civilian and victim of Sherman's March to the Sea in November.)

Cole Tyler (Charles' friend and co-victim of the March to the Sea. Distant fictional son of ex-President John Tyler. Was commissioned by Confederacy in Atlanta. He joined Confederacy for states' rights and other reasons and will be killing racists Northern and Southern alike throughout the story. Don't fret XD)

Sarah Ruby (no planned relation to Jack Ruby... a woman from New Orleans on the run after Butler's General Order No. 28)

Waya, and Boiling Kettle (Civilian who was victim of the Sand Creek Massacre on Nov. 29 1865)

Raven, Crow, & Scarlet (Waya and Raven are siblings who self-proclaim themselves "What Black Kettle should be". Raven was at Sand Creek, while Waya was hunting.)

*I know these aren't traditional Southern Cheyenne names. Some, like Waya, are different for a reason.
