SAM_/

"Get the hell UP, Sammy! Utth jao! *"

"Uggggh, fine."

A young girl gets out of her blanket cocoon, wincing at the sun on her face. It's painful to wake up, at six (freaking) A.M every day, mechanically going through the same routine day after day after day, all to go to the same redbrick building. Riddle Middle School. Plenty fun to say, no fun to go to.

"Lyx, can we take the long route today? I kinda want to ditch homeroom"

"Fine. I like it. Just hurry up already!"

Sam.She said her name to herself under her breath. It tasted like woodsmoke, Indian fabrics and colours everywhere. It was a boy's name. Not like she cared. Neither did her family. It was literally EVERYONE ELSE EVERYWHERE who cared. Not Alex, their desi agender roommate since they were both three. While pulling on a burgundy sweater, sighing to herself. She so wished that the stories that her dad had told her about aliens were true, life would be so much more interesting then. She walked over to Alex, and scruffed up their dark, choppy short locks. Didn't say goodbye. Same old, same old.

ALEX_/

School came, school went. Same old thing.

When would this stagnant cycle end? After college? No, you'd be working a day job. After retirement? No, your body would break, It's a waiting period for death. Why are things this way? Why can't things change? Why is my life and everyone else's lives planned this way? Goddamit, all this semi-philosophical thinking is making me lose my freaking appetite.

These were the thoughts that ran through Alex Akshita Whistler's head as they were eating lunch. All they wanted was to go home, catch the new season of 'The Dragon Prince' and play short-four-pronged-fork-swords with Sam. Alas, there were still two classes (excluding the remainder of lunch) left. TWO. HOURS. They looked at Sam, who was eating with gusto, almost too fast. She had the appetite of Obelix but had the metabolism of a teenage boy. Seriously! Like, not fair, world! Alex didn't eat much, mostly due to being genetically overweight. Eh, what can you do? Their appa* Phred, had always told them to f**k the haters. He'd never got into censoring his thoughts, unlike Mr. and Mrs. Eggtree.

----

These were the thoughts that ran through their head on the forest walk back home. They and Sam had decided to stop at the treehouse, only to be blocked by a structure of dirty metal. Maybe some a REALLY BIG pile of scrap metal. Or a Spaceship!

"Hey, Sammy, D'ya think that doosri appa and amma renovated this place after we left? Kyoki mujhe nahi pata kya ho raha hai!

"No, they would've cleaned it. This looks REALLY dirty."

"Almost like it crashed..."

"Almost like it crashed..."

Alex got to it first. The (dubbed) spaceship had many small windows, mostly shattered, was in something of a cylindrical shape with a sharp, small point, and the lights were blinking on and off. The two tried looking for an entrance, and were feeling along the sides, when they caught an inspired spurt of coughing, maybe mixed with a little sobbing, quietly, as if the person inside was to weak to make noise. Sam apparently hadn't heard.

"Sammy, there's someone inside. It sounds like they're coughing. Try to find an entrance on top. That's how they do it on some planes, capiche?"

"Double capiche."

Sam soon found a hatch while Alex drew (mediocrely) the ship. They both clambered in, doing their best to not make a sound, but even their breathing sounded like a foghorn in this still, dark, quiet.

The coughing sound Alex heard got louder, and the duo turned on their torch app.

A/N  You may have noticed that some of Alex's dialogue aren't in English. They're in Hindi, my native tongue, and I will be translating at the end of each chapter. Hindi itself is a really fun language to speak, so I highly recommend this to fans of Indian culture.
