The snow was now starting to melt and the days were getting longer. It had been an easy winter.
Kristine was helping Abigail bake a pie when the Nathan came running in with his younger brother behind him. Those two were always together.
"Be careful you two." Abigail cautioned them.
"Oh I'm sure they will be fine," Kristine said while making the crust for the pie. "At least I hope so anyway."
"Sorry," said Nathan. "We were just playing." The two left and continued their tom-foolery.

After helping Abigail make the pie she said she had things under control and that Kristine could go off and do whatever she wanted.
The first thought that came to her mind was the lake and the little waterfall where she had spent most of her time with Thomas before the snow.
Thomas though, was off hunting again so she decided to go back to the lake. Maybe he was there taking a break or something.

As Kristine walked to the lake, she took her time and splashed around in the puddles a little. Her birthday as tomorrow and Thomas's had already passed. Though, she wasn't really going to turn fifteen. Time passed differently while she was with the Martins.
Back in her time, she would still be fourteen.
When she finally got to the lake, she stopped and hid behind a tree. There she saw Thomas cutting out some ice with a saw and placing it in a large bag. After that, he stood up and brushed his knees off and picked up the bag that carried the ice and started walking. It was then that he noticed Kristine a few feet away.
"Kristine, what brings you here?" He said looking a little surprised.
"I wanted to go out on a walk. That's all."
"Well, why don't you walk back to the house with me and keep me company?"
Kristine agreed without saying anything and walked alongside Thomas.
When the two of them made it back to the house, Kristine noticed that Thomas was heading somewhere else.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"To the barn. I have an ice bin out there to keep the ice safe. When summer comes around we'll be able to make ice cream." He explained.
That's right. Kristine hadn't made Homemade Ice cream in years. Of course, she knew how to do it but this time it was going to be a little different.

When night came and dinner was over, Kristine quietly walked to Thomas's room and lightly knocked on the door. She could hear soft footsteps coming closer. When the door opened a crack, she saw half of Thomas's face. His hair seemed messy too.
"What do you need, Kristine?"
"I just wanted to talk."
"About what?"
"Can I please come in?"
"It's late, Kristine?" He wasn't sure letting Kristine into his room this late in the evening was a good idea.
"Please, Thomas?" She put on her biggest puppy dog face for him and with that, he couldn't help but let her in.
"Alright. What do you want to talk about?" He took a seat on a chair in the corner of his room while Kristine stood a few feet away from him.
She cleared her throat before speaking. "Lately I have been having this feeling," Thomas stayed silent. "like...something strange is about to happen."
"What do you mean? Something strange?"
The truth was Kristine had been having bad dreams of Thomas dying, just like she saw while going through time frames and just as her granny had told her. She was also having bad dreams about being caught in the middle of things and getting killed by the Red Coats. A few tears found their way up and Kristine started to cry. Thomas quickly got up and hugged her. His actions were automatic and he stepped back, unsure of what he just did was the right thing.
"I'm sorry," said Thomas.
"No. It's alright. I don't mind at all."
Thomas then became less embarrassed and comforted her again. The only light in the room was the moonlight and the small candle lit on the dresser next to his bed.

After some time, the two of them finally let go and sat down on his bed.
"If you ever want to talk or just get away, you can come here and talk to me," Thomas assured her.
Kristine smiled a bit. "Thanks, Thomas. Id like that." He smiled back.
Thomas then leaned in a bit and kissed her on the cheek.
Kristine kissed him back, pleasantly surprised. He looked shocked but all Kristine did was laugh but then covered her mouth, not wanting to wake anyone inside the house.
Finally, Thomas took her hand in his and said, "I really like you, Kristine...I hope that you never have to go because I really like having you around."
"Sam here, Thomas." Just then, Kristine could no longer feel Thomas's hand on hers and looked down, gasping. Thomas looked as well and shot up from his bed, shocked.
"What's happening?!" He asked, his face twisting in worry and confusion.
"I don't know!" Her whole body started to disappear. This was the first time this had ever happened.

Suddenly, Thomas took the back of her head and brought her face close to his and kissed her. The two stayed like that with their eyes closed till neither of them could feel each other's lips.

When Kristine finally opened her eyes she saw Granny sitting on the bed with a flustered look on her face.
"What have you done?" she said.
All Kristine could do was look at her, sorry she had ever done anything to upset her.
How foolish of her to think that staying with the Martins could last forever.
