I still remember that dreadful night in November when our lives changed forever. We were heading home after dinner and our father was yelling at us for spilling our drinks on our nice clothes.
"How could you've been so ignorant as to spill your drink. You and your brother are old enough to act a little grown up."
My sister and I just sat there, unresponsive, as he continued yelling at us. Our mother wasn't even looking at us and had become just as unresponsive as we had been. We came to a light that had turned red and waited for it to turn green. When it turned green we continued going straight to get to a back road we took all the time. When we turned onto the road we saw another car that had lost control and tried to swerve and dodge it, but to no avail, we were hit. As we were hit we started spinning in a circle and lost control.
We kept spinning in a circle, but the initial impact had shattered the glass into tiny pieces of millions of pieces. While Zaina and I were screaming at the top of our lungs, we slammed into a tree and the front end of the car was severely damaged. The front wheel axle was broken and the wheels were at an angle. As we were lying there we could smell the gaseous fumes drifting from the engine. Zaina coughed heavily and I dragged myself by the one arm I had over to her.
"Sis...I don't think it's safe to be in or near the car," he said. They had to maneuver their way out of the car, but the fumes were getting stronger by the minute.
After we had crawled out of the car, we had to limp a safe distance away from the car, to find a safe spot. After standing there for about ten minutes we noticed from the distance we were that the car was smoking. Which this had signaled the car was about to go up into flames. As the car continued to smoke up, we pulled the cell phone out and called the police. The boom from the explosion had hurt our ears and left a ringing sound.
"Z-Zaina...are you okay" I coughed out hoarsely. Zaina nods and pulls me in for a hug. As we kept hugging, we didn't notice the loud, ear-deafening sirens of the fire trucks and police. We stood there until a policeman had walked over to us.
"Hey guys, my name is Officer Smith. I was wondering after you guys get checked out by the ambulance if I and my partner can ask you a few questions?" He said waiting patiently. Me and Zaina nodded, holding each other tight enough where we couldn't be separated. The officer nodded and walked back over to his patrol car.
We stood there and watched the firefighter clear up the fire that was caused by the explosion. Most of the trees around the car had caught fire, which produced a lot more smoke. We were coughing as we headed with the paramedics to the ambulance.
When we arrived at the ambulance, there were two paramedics ready to make sure we were okay. While the paramedics checked our pulse, we could only stare blankly out into the wilderness. After the paramedics did their job, we were taken to the police station.
