Happy Day

It's such a beautiful day out. Birds with their babies are chirping out a melody. The sunflowers are in full bloom, reaching up towards the sky.

Larry's fingers are intertwined with mine as we walk down the sidewalk. The park is a good 10 minutes away, but we enjoy the walk.

It's not too hot since the breeze is blowing. Some other people pass us on the sidewalk, take a double-take, then keep walking.

I see Ash wave to us from a picnic blanket at the park. I smile and drag Larry over there. He stumbles a bit to catch up.

"Todd and Neil haven't gotten here yet," She says and rolls her eyes, "probably makin' out somewhere,"

We laugh and she notices that my hair is down. I immediately know what she wants to do.

"I'm gonna fix your hair," As if she could read my mind, she plops herself down behind me and starts braiding my hair in weird ways.

She was wearing a beige striped halter top with some ripped short shorts. Her hair was up in a cute, messy bun.

Larry just smiles at me while Ash tugs mercilessly at my hair.

Soon, Todd and Neil get here with two boxes of pizza and some drinks.

Neil stifles back a laugh when he sees Ash messing with my hair, and Todd seems to care less.

"Up-do or down-do?" She asks, pausing.

"Down, I guess,"

She tugs at my hair some more and I wince. She mumbles an apology and starts being more gentle.

Some more people start showing up at the park. Most have kids and they run off towards the swings and slides, while others lounge out at the picnic tables.

Ash fixes my hair down and I pull out my phone for a camera.

The hair around my face is pulled back into a ponytail-braid thing that sits on my crown. With my hair being wavy, it looks beautiful.

"Oh my gosh, I love it!" I yell and smile. She smiles back and grabs a slice of pizza.

Larry looks at my hair, too, and just gives me a thumbs up. I playfully punch his shoulder and he laughs.

We finish up our pizza between all of us and decide to go for a walk.

Ash folds up the blanket and puts it in her small backpack, and Todd goes to throw the boxes away.

"You guys wanna go to the mall?" Ash asks, stopped in front of us.

I shrug, Larry just gives more thumbs ups, Todd says sure, and Neil is fine with whatever.

"We gotta stop by the apartments so I can grab some money," I say and she nods.

We pass by the apartments and Todd and I go inside to get money. Larry says he's too lazy and tells me where he keeps his cash.

We step into the elevator and Todd strikes up a conversation.

"So," he starts, seemingly unsure about how to continue, "do you have different pronouns or anything?"

I'm about to answer before he interrupts me, "Neil was asking because you wore a dress one day and now it's women's clothing,"

I chuckle, "Nah, I'm 100% man,"

He smiles, "Alright,"

We part ways on our floor to grab our cash.

I go in quietly in case Dad is sleeping. Turns out he's not, but he's just not home. Weird. He's always home on Saturdays.

I shrug it off and make for the jar in my top left dresser drawer. With allowance and money I've earned or gotten, I split it with personal money and surgery money.

Yeah, I still want to get that skin graft.

The jar for surgery is sitting on the kitchen counter in case Dad has any spare change, he puts it in there.

I get around twenty-five dollars and go back out.

On my way out the door, a glint of metal on the floor catches the light. A nickel.

I pick it up and smile before dropping it in my surgery jar with a clink.

Todd and I meet back up at the elevators and smile at each other. We have a slight conversation on the way down, but otherwise, it's silent.

We get back out there and head off to the mall. It's another pretty good walk away, but only like 20 minutes.

More people stare considering it's not very common to see someone so gender-confusing here in Nockfell. I ignore them and joke around with my friends.

"Oh my god, Sal c'mere," Ash says quickly and grabs my hand to drag me away.

Larry laughs and goes off somewhere else with Todd and Neil.

I whisper a silent prayer and hope this pain ends quickly. I pray a little more when we get into the women's section.

"I saw this cute dress the other day and I thought it would look great on you," She smiles wide and weaves us through the clothes.

We stop in front of a few dresses and she digs through them. I stand off to the side and look around until she thrusts a dress into my hand.

Suddenly, she covers my eyes and makes me start walking. "Ash, what-?"

"Shush, don't look at it yet," She closes a door behind me and I assume that I'm in the changing room, "You might not get a good first impression,"

Oh god, what did she put in my hands?

Upon opening my eyes, I see a light pink sweater dress.

Cute. Dunno what she was so worried about...wait.

I turn the dress around and see that it's an open back. Almost like a virgin killer sweater, but it has a little more fabric on the sides. It also covers the ass a little better.

"Oh my god, Ash!" I groan out. I hear her giggle, but she says nothing.

The dress is cute, sure, but it shows a lot of skin.

Just to make her happy.

I lay my clothes down beside me and slip on the dress. It actually hugs my curves pretty well, even if it shows a lot of skin. The hole in the back stops a little below the middle of my back, so that's good.

It goes down to the middle of my thighs and it has a really comfy fabric.

This..isn't as bad as I thought. It actually looks real cute on me. Huh.

"Yo, Ash," I say, expecting her to be nearby.

"Yeah?" She leans up against the dressing room door.

I go to open it and she moves. She looks at me in the dress and smiles wide. Her expression fades soon, though.

"What is it? Does it not look good?" I ask, holding my hands against my chest.

She grabs my hand and holds it between hers, "These...are old, right?" She motions to my bandages. They do look pretty old.

My eyes widen and I stutter, "Y-yeah, I completely forgot about t-those," I pull my hand away.

She smiles warmly, "As long as they're old," Her bubbly personality returns. "That dress looks really cute on you!"

I smile again, "Thanks," I pull it down a bit, "I don't hate it as much as I thought I would,"

She giggles and pushes me back into the dressing room. "Lemme go find the others so they can see," She seems really proud of herself for finding such a good dress.

I just chuckle and say, "Sure,"
