Ch.2

Sophia’s POV

I searched the hall for my next target, I had been gossiping with people all morning trying to find out as much info about the mysterious storyteller as I could. Like who he was and where I could find him. So far I knew that he was a warlock and I could find him in the boys dorm... Very helpful, I couldn’t just waltz over to the dorm and check every single room, it would take me hours. I could try using a spell to find him but for most of them you probably need to at lest know what the person looks like. Then I spotted Owen, the head of the boys dorm, perfect! He would surely know who the storyteller was. Just as I was about to approach him the sound of the bell ringing echoed down the hall and everyone shuffled, starting to head towards their classrooms.

“Sugar!” I swore quietly, “I was so close!”

When I reached my first lesson, Bell greeted me immediately, Melissa and Chelsea are in different subjects so it was just Bell and I.

I noticed that everyone had gathered into groups and were chatting about something. It might be that storyteller, I turned to ask Bell and realised she had already walked off to one of the groups. I walked over and joined her.

“So that’s all the fuss about?” I asked curiously.

Bell replied excitedly, “Haven’t you heard, there’s a new transfer student!”

“And he’s cute!” Added Charlotte and they both giggled. Charlotte is a nice girl who I’ve known for a long time and I know she can be a little boy-crazy.

“Wait, how do you know what he looks like?” I asked

Charlotte cleared her throat. “Well, I definitely didn’t ‘accidentally’ bump into him in the hallway.” She said in a sarcastic tone.

That gave me an idea. “Oh, well that would explain the weird stare he’s giving you then.”

“What? Where is he?” She said while frantically searching for him.

I laughed out loud and she looked at me bluntly. “I can’t... Believe you fell for that!.. He’s not even in the room!” I managed between my laughter.

Everyone sat down in there seats when the teacher entered the classroom, some of them whispering about the transfer student who followed him in. I have to admit, he was kind of cute. He had dark brown hair and some slightly longer pieces hung around his face and partly covered his ears and hazel eyes. He looked strong and was a bit taller than me.

“This is Lucas and from now on he will be in our class. Treat him kindly and make him welcome.” The teacher practically ordered even though he knew we would anyway.

“Lucas, you can sit here next to James.” James is quite popular and is also quite cute as well. If I did have a crush he would be it.

James greeted Lucas with a smile and when he smiled back I swear Charlotte nearly fainted.

At the end of the day I made my way back to the dorm by myself while Chelsea, Melissa and Bell started their after school activities. When I reached my room I grabbed my pencil and drawing book and headed to the roof. Whenever I’m alone because the others are doing their club activities I always go to the roof to sketch, it’s quiet and peaceful up there.

As I opened the door the fresh air filled my lungs with ecstasy. I settled down on the floor with my pencil and decided what to draw. You can see the whole campus from up here, to my right was the boys dorm, infront of me was all the classrooms, on the left of me was the oval, an undercover basketball court and a sports and magic practiceing hall. And finally, behind me was the forbidden forest, it was out of bounds.

"What are you drawing?" I jumped in surprise and slammed my head back on the brick wall behind me.

"Fudge!" I said, rubbed my head and looked up to see where the voice had come from.

"Are you ok? I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen." He said apologetically and put his hand on my shoulder.

The throbbing calmed down and I answered. "Yeah, I'm fine. Wait! How did you get over here? This is the roof of the girls dorm!"

"I jumped." He said like it was nothing and I turned my head to look at the two meter gap between the boys and girls dorms.

Lucas’s POV

I walked up the stairs hoping they would lead to the roof. I swung open the door and a slight breeze fell over me. I noticed a girl drawing on the roof of the girls dorm.

Taking a couple steps back, I readied myself to jump. Running up to the fence making my steps as soft as possible, I hopped up putting one foot on the railing and pushing off as hard as I could, landing on the other side silently.

"What are you drawing?" I asked. Suddenly she jolted back hitting her head against the wall. Ouch! That would have hurt.

"Are you ok?" I asked concerned. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen." I leant down and put my hand on her shoulder. A shiver ran up my arm and through the rest of my body, weird, maybe someone walked over my grave.

She rubbed her head a bit then answered me. "Yeah, I'm fine. Wait! How did you get over here? This is the roof of the girls dorm!"

"I jumped." I said and she looked at the edge of the building then back to me with a surprised look on her face. Looking at the girl close up I think I recognized her from this morning in first lesson.

“So, what are you drawing?” I repeated because she still hadn’t answered me.

She looked back down to her page and said, “Oh, well I haven’t decided yet. Anyway, you’re Lucas right?”

“Maybe, maybe not. You know it’s not polite to ask someone else’s name before you introduce yourself.” I said, my only aim being to find out her name.

“Right, I’m Sophia Hummingbird. A Second Class, Free-hand witch.”

“Cool, you can just call me Luke. I’m a Possessive warlock, Third Class.”

She stared at me confused. “What? Possessive?”

“It’s a type of Free-hand warlock. I channel my magic energy into an object and then it becomes, well... Magical.” I explained, “It’s an ancient magic which is where the stereotype witch with the flying broom came from.”

“Sweet!” She said and then went back to her drawing. “Anyway, what should I draw?”

“You could draw me.” I replied, ‘me’ being the only thing that looked draw-able up here on the roof.

“Sure, if you want to end up looking like some sort of mutated monster.” She joked then smiled at me for the first time. She was actually quite pretty.
