"Night guys" I said settling down.
"Night" they all said back.
You could say that the first night didn't turn out too bad.

Harper's POV
My sleep was interrupted by the tweeting of several annoying sounding birds. As soon as I opened my eyes, the sun practically blinded them. It was safe to say that i'd had an incredibly rough sleep, tossing and turning, being paranoid that something was going to land on my face. I could already feel the bags start to form under my eyes.
I soon realised I wasn't getting back to sleep with the racket the wildlife was making, so I sat up and stretched my limbs after my rough night on the ground. As I was bringing the logs up to the firepit to get a fire going, I heard a yawn. I kneeled in front of the pit and began to sort the logs in an order where they wouldn't topple over. I heard a rustle. I looked up to see Jack was awake.
"Morning" he said groggily.
"Morning" I said and yawned straight after.
"How did you sleep?" Jack asked whilst getting up.
"Not that great" I said, setting the fire. "You?"
"Yeah not great either" he said yawning.
I prodded the logs with the stick until they all seemed set.
"Do you want to go get some water now so by the time everyone else is up it can be boiling?" I asked.
"Yeah" he said.
We got the water bag and walked carefully along the path.
"So, those rice and beans" Jack grimaced as I pumped some water whilst we held the bag.
"Yeah, not the best" I said, laughing lightly.
"You can say that again" he chuckled.
We finished collecting the water and began to hefty trail back to the camp carrying the bag, feeling like it weighed a tonne. Jack hung it up for me.
"Thanks" I smiled.
"No problem" he smiled.
I poured a good amount of water into the pot and began to boil it.
****
By the time the water had finished boiling, everyone was up and I graced them all with a cup of the Australian jungles finest, hot water. We all sipped on it, clearly not enjoying the taste but hey, at least we were drinking something.
As Liza was pulling a few mats together, Jack, Joe and Zoe were coming back with the dishes they'd cleaned in the stream, ready for me to put the rice and beans in that I was close to finishing cooking.
We tucked into the bland meal, savouring the unsatisfying taste. It was safe to say that the taste didn't get better over night. I had a feeling i'd have to endure quite a few portions before I didn't mentally complain about them.

Just as I was talking to Liza, Dec and Holly came bouncing into the camp. We had no idea why they came. It seemed too early in the game for a trial.
"Good morning, campers" Holly chirped.
"Morning" we all said in unison.
"So how are you all this morning?" Dec asked. "Nice and refreshed?"
We all laughed at his comment.
"The opposite" I laughed.
"Still not got used to jungle life?" Holly asked.
"No" we all laughed in unison.
"Well, you're probably wondering why we're here" Dec said. "The public have been voting for which one of you they want to take part in the first bushtucker trial; Viper pit"
I gulped instantly knowing snakes were going to be the main part of the trial.
"So without further ado" Holly said.
"Jack.... it's not you" Dec said.
"Zoe.... it might be you" Holly said.
I immediately reached over and squeezed Zoe's hand comfortably.
"Joe.... it's not you" Dec said.
"Liza.... it's not you" Holly said.
"Which means Harper, it might be you" Dec said.
Zoe and I squeezed each other's hands. It was either me or her. I'd never felt so terrified.
"So Zoe and Harper. The public have decided that the person they want to see face Viper pit is...." Holly said. "Zoe"
I mentally sighed with relief. Thank god.
I stood up and hugged Zoe.
"Zoe, we'll see you at the trial clearing in a little bit" Dec said. "We'll see the rest of you very soon"
And with that, Dec and Holly left.
Let's just say I was so thankful not to be doing the trial.
End of part 9
A/N:
How will Zoe get on in the trial? Well, until next time!
