We all talked and shared stories for a little while longer before heading to bed.

"Night guys" I said.

"Night" they all replied in unison.

I just had to remember, the best was yet to come.

Harper's POV

The next morning came along extremely quick. We'd already mastered the routine of getting the fire lit and the rice and beans on.

The four of us were sat around the fire tucking into our flavourless rice and beans, sitting in a comfortable silence.

"So i'm guessing there's going to be a trial everyday" I said, after swallowing my mouthful of hell.

"Looks like there will be" Joe said. "After all, we have to have a meal everyday so we have to earn them one way or another"

"Yeah I guess" I said, finishing my breakfast.

After we'd all finished eating, Jack and I took the dishes down to the creek to wash them up.

"So, how you coping?" Jack asked me as we both washed a dish each.

"Um ok I guess" I said. "It's still a lot to get used to"

"Yeah. I get you" he said.

"Not being with my family is the hardest thing" I said, sighing.

"Same" Jack said. "So who are you missing? You told us you're an only child"

"Well i'm close to my mum" I smiled, thinking about her. "And my cousin, Vanessa. Since i've never had siblings, she's been the closest i've had to one. What about you?"

"Well, my mum and dad" he said. "My brother and sister. But especially my girlfriend, Erin"

"How long have you two been together" I smiled.

"Nearly two years" he said, smiling. "The two happiest years of my life"

"Aww that's sweet" I smiled. "You sound so in love with her"

"Yep. I'm head over heels for her" he said, grinning from ear to ear.

"Aww" you cooed.

"So, do you have someone special?" he asked me.

"I just came out of a really harsh break up so i'm single" I said as I scrubbed a dish. "Not looking at all, just need to be single for a bit"

"Yeah, I get that" he smiled.

We finished scrubbing all the dishes and took them back up to the camp. I positioned them all under the sun so they'd all dry nicely. As I finished, Dec and Holly walsed into the camp.

"Good morning campers" Dec said cheerily.

All four of us sat together.

"How are you all this morning?" Holly asked us.

"Ok I guess" Jack said.

"So, i'm guessing you know why we're here" Dec said.

"The public have been voting for who they want to take part in today's trial, Monstrous Monoliths" Holly said.

"So in no particular order" Dec continued. "Liza, it's not you"

"Joe" Holly said. "It might be you"

"Harper" Dec said and I gulped. "It's not you"

I instantly felt relieved. I knew I wasn't ready to face a trial yet.

"So that means Jack" Holly said. "It might be you"

"The public have decided that the person they want to see face Monstrous Monoliths is...." Dec announced. "Jack"

"Jack, we'll see you down at the trial clearing soon" Holly said and they both left.

All I could say was thank god I wasn't facing the trial.
